11 goals from 6 games from the big Eel 2 of which are in the video below. I'd love for him to continue to pop up with 2-3 goals each week and then breakout with a 5-6 goal bag at some stage this year.

Both goals were impressive. Kicking 55-60 m goals at 19 is impressive but equally so is Eel breaking a tackle, getting a quick step in and snapping a rovers goal.

He is so versatile.

Man this kid is a gun. Flew at everything. Stuck a couple uncontested and that goal on the run. Once he gets consistent he will be good for 3-4 a game.

Have to laugh at a few of them. Favorite food? Pizza. Well we need to be feeding him costco pizzas from now on.

Nominated for goal of the week again for the one he ran 50m and only took one bounce.

If you are trying to say that he ran too far.
Take another look - the ball went over his head at the 50m line and he took possession probably about 35 out and took 1 bounce.
Brilliant goal.

A genuinely special player. Players with such a great combination of pace, height and dynamism are rare.

Yeah it was borderline. They don't usually pay it anyway.

Isn't 35m to 2m also too far, given it's supposed to be 15m between bounces? :)

He ran to the goal post but it was around the boundary line instead of in a straight line. I think he ran 15-20 meters after bouncing.

Technically correct. But as i said, there was no way they were taking that off him. The outcry would have been enormous. The one they allowed of Hanleys last year was far worse than that. And blokes run further than 16 to 17mtrs in almost every single game of footy.

Hipwood nominated for goal of the year
Eric Hipwood has been nominated for the AFL's Goal of the Year following a classy finish against Port Adelaide on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.

Gathering the ball right on the boundary line, Hipwood showed off his pace to burn Jackson Trengrove, before selling the candy expertly to Tom Clurey and slamming the ball home.

Hipwood is up against Bryce Gibbs and Kieran Jack for this week's best goal.

Eric Hipwood has been likened to a young Buddy Franklin — but the emerging Brisbane star isn’t all that comfortable with the comparisons
HE HAS been likened to Buddy Franklin, Joe Daniher and even Rafael Nadal.
But Eric Hipwood wants to forge his own football identity, taking the best from each player, one at a time. “I try to take parts out of everyone’s game, whether that be Buddy, Tom Lynch from the Gold Coast, Josh Kennedy or Joe Daniher,” Hipwood told foxfooty.com.au. “If you can take parts out of everyone’s game and try to use that to yours’ then you’ll be a better player for it.”

As for Nadal?

“I guess with the headband and the brown hair there’s a bit of a comparison to make there. It seems to be a hit so I guess I’ll take it.” The lanky Brisbane academy product isn’t entirely comfortable with the comparisons to one of the game’s greatest forwards. But they’re hard to hide from.

You only need to look at Hipwood’s highlights reel to see the comparisons are more than justified. His running goal along the boundary line against Port Adelaide on Saturday — where he took a bounce and sold some candy — combined the swagger, skill and showmanship that every superstar forward strives for. “To be totally honest, when I got the ball I wasn’t really thinking goals,” Hipwood said. “I was just trying to draw the Port Adelaide player, I even took a bounce to try and bring him forward. Even when I went to handball, I was thinking I’d handball. “It wasn’t until I was close to goal that I realised I had a chance to kick it. It came home pretty quickly and I was shocked by how much space I had.”

At only 19 years old, there’s plenty of upside to the 202cm forward who, in his junior years, also swung back in defence. And while the spotlight has predominantly been on another tall forward in Josh Schache, it’s Hipwood who has shown the most improvement since the pair were drafted in 2015.

Schache signed a new two-year deal that will anchor him at Brisbane until the end of 2019, a time by which Hipwood is hopeful the pair will not only be hitting their strides in the forward line, but by which Scache will be happy to remain at the club. “The more we play together the better we can be,” Hipwood said. “I guess in years to come we hope we both can be futures of the club. At the moment, we’re both inexperienced and young. The more we learn and learn off each other the better we’ll be. “That’s something I’ve learnt as well this year. The forward line isn’t one or two people, it’s six people and we’ve all got to work together. The more we work together the better we’ll be.”

Prior to re-signing, Scache had been linked with Victorian clubs including Richmond, as the No.2 draft pick vacillated with the idea of coming back home. Knowing the importance of establishing a strong Brisbane forward line, Hipwood was an incessant chatter in Schache’s ear, egging him on to stay at the Lions. “Josh and I are very good mates. He’s definitely someone I speak to regularly about how he’s going,” Hipwood said. “Even when he went back home I was still texting him, trying to heckle him to get back to Brisbane. “Him and I do have a good relationship and he’s definitely one of my best mates at the club. “The sooner he can get back in the team the better because I feel like when he’s playing I play better footy and we both play better footy together.”

Along with Scache, Harris Andrews, Ben Keays and Sam Skinner all recommitted to the club last week. Hipwood suggested the signings were more than symbolic, proving that coach Chris Fagan had the players believing the Lions were “on the right track”. “All the re-signing shows we’re heading the right way, that it’s a good place to be and an enjoyable place to come and play football at,” he said. “I do feel like we are hitting our markers a lot closer than we were in the past and that we’re seeing some improvement. “I feel like inside the club we always had the mentality we were improving and now we’re seeing some results, even with the Dockers win.”

While Hipwood said it was almost impossible to compare 2016 with 2017, the biggest change had come from the top. Under Justin Leppitsch, the club only won 18 quarters last season. They’re close to hitting that mark only 13 rounds into 2017. “Fages has been fantastic,” Hipwood said. “He tries to make me improve each week. Whether it’s on the field or off the field, he’s been a mentor for me. He understands that it will take time, but he gives us that trust.

“He’s been at Hawthorn and seen that development. He gives us the trust that we’re on the pathway. He knows what it takes to make us come the best players we can become. We take confidence after that. “It just feels like a completely new club.”
