Im wondering why is Essendon's midfield not as good as other sides midfields in the competition. I know it is not as good as the Eagles or Brisbane, but I am curious as to why it is not as good. Is this due to lesser skill when kicking, bad handballs, tackling, speed, etc. Im just curious as people always say that Essendon's midfield is not that good. Thanks.

Should be pretty simple. Where other teams have drafted Judds and Hodge's we have drafted Lloyds and Fletchers. Our last 2 premierships atleast have been won with greater key position players than midfields so we have stuck with the winning formula.

It is better than past years. The problem we have i believe is consitency in our midfield. 1 week we look great the next we look like Amateurs. Our midfielders find it hard reading Hille's ruckwork, we do get beaten in centre clearances most weeks but we are getting better. The biggest critisism i have with our midfield is we are not accountable for our direct midfield opponents which odviously makes us look slow but i dont think we are that slow.

remember from 2000-200 we lost a hell of a lot of good midfeilders, joe misiti, mark mecuri, blake caracella (was very good for us).. we also have no real players in their prime in the centre.. prime meaning probably 25-26 years old... stanton is getting close, everyone else hasnt really played many games, lovett is old but this is really his first year in the midfeild, winderlick given another year should be a standout... then you have jobe who will only get better with experience... all the other players are past their prime in peverill, johnsons campo, etc.... we are just going to have to wait a few years for some of our midfeild to peak, its unfortunate because if they were at their peak this year no doubt we would be a top 2 side.

In my opinion, it's simply because our midfield doesn't have the matchwinners aisde from Hird, who can hardly be called a midfielder. We have a group of good, solid consistant players like Watson, Stanton, Peverill and Jason Johnson but we don't have guys that can take games apart. Guys like Winderlich and Lovett certainly have the potential bit finding consistancy throughout games has proven to be a weakness for them.

I think the killer blow to our midfield was Ramanauskas being diagnosed with cancer. Rama was drafted in the same year as Lenny Hayes and, before Rama was diagnosed, was quite clearly a superior player. Should Rama have kept on progressing, imagine what having a guy in Hayes' ilk would do to help our midfield.

Some solid players in there, but no superstars that can break a game open. Before this year most of the players were pretty similiar as well.

Still lacks defensive pressure, but it is improving.

Midfield was fantastic tonight, great win.

We are still 2 or 3 pacy runners short of a good balance. Poor old winda was the only bloke who could break the congestion with pace and deliver for us. He was stuffed midway through the last quarter, losing stants early didnt help.

Throw in a fit Lovett, Nash, Dempsey, Jetta etc and we will start to break some games right open rather than trying to choke them.
