Just finished 2 weeks in Sicily. We cycled through the countryside and to most of the main cities and towns. If you’re thinking of cycling, don’t trust Google Maps!

Liked both Palermo and Catania, of the cities: lots of bustling energy and great food. Agrigento was stunning - I really like Ancient Greek and Roman history. The temples and the museum were really good.

Also liked Siracusa, very pretty just to wander about and lucky enough to see Medea at a 2000 year old amphitheatre. Got up Etna just before it woke up again. Finished at Taormina, which is nice but over-rated. It’s basically a pretty tourist town but there’s not much else there to do.

Overall, would definitely recommend Sicily. The food is terrific, the countryside is beautiful and the people were very friendly and helpful.

Some lucky people on here.

Unfortunately don't have the $$ to do a big trip at the moment but always dreaming and planning.

Appreciate what you get to do people

Would LOVE to visit Riga, Latvia as that is where my dad was born. Heard it's really nice and online looks good.

Any ideas of a good itenary for travelling through the Baltic areas as well as seeing a couple of the 'big name' European places on the way (Eng, Ger, Fra)

He wouldn't happen to be Latvian orthodox by any chance?

Anyone got experience with a good value EU eSim, preferably with unlimited data?
I was studying in London for several months and was using a Lebara SIM. It gave me unlimited data in the UK and 30gb per month around Europe for £25, which is around $45AUD. Don't have any experience with another card but I found it pretty good. Had some issues for an hour or two after switching countries but the overall experience was quite good for the value.

What was it about Bulgaria that you liked so much?
Combination of various things, having lived in Switzerland and Sweden for 5 years before that. Police state etc. Now it's quite expensive in BG when i came here, i bought a penthouse property in the center of the city for 100k Euros. Everything was dirt cheap (specially if you are coming from Australia or Switzerland) but overall i don't have to deal with tourists so much which annoys me when i visit Prague or Berlin. These cities are so touristy i believe the local culture has been lost. Can be someone else's cup of tea, not mine.

. My initial impression was poor when the plane was landing. My first few days in Sofia was miserable. Bsck in 2008. It all changed very quickly when i got to know the locals. Now i have a tech back office here for my business in Switzerland and London, top talents for little money. But overall i never felt unsafe here, even walking around 3 am almost every weekend from the pub, i never had a problem. In stockholm or Zurich or Merseille i always had issues. Even in some of the dodgy suburbs of Burgas or Varna.

If i need to travel to London, it's only 3 hours away, i have no desire to stay in the UK or in western europe. The lev goes a long way here, specially in the North weatern part of the country, which is the most underrated and the most beautiful IMHO.

Been 12 years here now, think i am staying! About to get my 2nd EU passport, that will be a cool thing. Passed the dreaded language test...JUST.

Hoping for a few tips! I’ve got my trip - semi - booked. Fly into London for a few days there, later on I meet a few mates in Portugal and Spain, but for about 12-13 days inbetween I’ve got nothing planned or booked yet!

I’m finding it half stressful but also liberating that I can decide what I want to do without it being locked in yet. Any tips from anyone? Both in terms of good places to visit in that period, but also perhaps from a logistical POV? (Eg will be in England first up, but having to fly into Portugal later on.

Logistics/travelling to nearby areas aren’t the be all-end all for me, but obviously it makes it more convenient. Have an open mind for anywhere though really! Keen for new things.

Depends what you want to see more or none of, France or Germany.

Amsterdam and Prague are conveniently located as well.

Berlin, Hamburg, Amsterdam

Planning for my trip in September. How many days do I need in Berlin? I'm thinking 3 full days. If I'm bored after 2 I can take a day trip to Hamburg.

You won't be bored after 2 but 3 days should be good.

A day trip to Hamburg is definitely not enough, you'd want 2-3 days there on it's own

Both amazing cities

I won't have time for Hamburg this trip unless it is a day trip. I'm spending most of my time in Poland and the Baltics. Berlin is just my point of arrival and departure.

Got Italy all booked now. Starting in Bari, a couple of days in Brindisi and finishing up in Lecce. Planning to do day trips to all the small towns nearby, as they're close by these hubs.

Enjoy - be warned the touristy spots are really busy this year because this is the first full season post-Covid. Tonnes of Americans doing the White Lotus thing.

Yeah, I expect that. Apparently though Puglia is less often visited, and the tourist populated is heavily German (for whatever reason).

How will you be getting around?
