It was mentioned in another thread that Everitt wasnt playing very good footy in the backline and played much beter last year from a wing/hff.

I think that Everitt is playing out of his weight division and his skills and run arent being utilised playing from the backline.

I have hopes for him to become a key backman one day but for the benefit of our team in the next couple of years he is not needed there, especially when Hargrave and Morris take the same size/type of player that he does. ESPECIALLY when Callan comes back, he is certianly not needed in the backline.

Everitt should be given a chance to play the role that Hill plays most weeks from Wing/HFF because his skills and compsure would be great there.

Everitt, is not ready to take on a KPP role and is only just 19 years old. I agree he is better on a wing and with Tommy coming back next week he will play a different role.

Dont shoot me down for saying this but...

Last year I was over seas for most of the season and didn't get to see Everitt play at all. When I came back everyone was saying how good Everitt was and is going to be.

Anyway from what I have seen do this year I think he is overly hyped and overrated.

The only good performance I have seen him play this year was against the Pies.

Is he fit enough? maybe as a burst, but his opponent might burn him off and hurt us the other way. also his contested skils at his weight arent fantastic. but you can imagine the type of player he is going to be.

hill too, he is going to be very very dangerous.

He's obviously not strong enough to be playing on the first forward but surely with Tommy back he can play on the third tall. If he moves up the field we will have the problem of playing undersized Morris and especially Hargrave on taller forwards when this year they have been fantastic when playing on their own size players. Sure if their is no matchup for him he could play on the wing but I dont want to see Hargrave fighing above his weight again like he has his whole career when he has proved to be a magnicent defender on players his own size.

Everitt is best playing HBF where he can provide run from the backline. When Tommy returns, he won't have to punch above his weight.

It's amazing how much Tommy means to the backline - when he plays, balance is restored in our back half and our backline players get to play on players they should be playing on.

When he is missing, that's when our backline players start having to punch above their weight.

Still needs to work on his decision making. Bombs it too much when under pressure. Good skills though and worth persisting with.

Everyday is a school day...

I think that is unfair of you to say that. He turned 19 a couple of months ago, has played 14 games. He has huge potential and is not overrated. He came into the season with an injury to his knee, which did not help him at all, and he has been thrown into the deep end in the backline when he is not ready.

When he starts to put on some muscle and he gets some experience he will be better than his brother ever was.

He was basically the only shining light we had in our late form slump last year and picked up a rising star nomination in the process IIRC.

He will be good.

Guys forget about last year that was a nothing year as far as im concerned. Yes he is still Raw and skinny. I understand he was good last year and still has potential but im simply rating him on now and he is currently playing, For me he isn't playing great football. On top of that most people on hear turn a blind eye to what he doesn't do each week and the mistakes he makes but breath fire on blokes like Ray and Eagleton.

If Ray and Eagleton are making the same mistakes a guy who has played 10 games is making, then of course they should be under the pump.

There's a thing called development. The coaches would have a development plan for Skinny, and be helping him work on weaknesses. THey feel he can improve while playing senior footy - and I tend to agree.

Sometimes you have to play guys a touch early to get them ready a touch earlier.

He will be a really good player. He has only played a handful of games so once he gets to the 40 game mark watch out.

The big thing for him is to have a big pre season and put some weight on. With such a skinny body, it is hard for him to come up against big bodied players week in week out. But he will fill out. The gym will become his best friend in the years ahead.

Yes I do agree and have no problem with that but lets not forget his "currently" playing some below ave football

You'd think this week with williams back and playing Carlton (not saying their a bad team, but can't really see a match up needed with him there) that they'll move him up onto a wing or play him off half-back and tell him to run run run!

'Third tall' types are exactly who is torching him though. It's not like he is getting the massive job on big name opponents. Ryan Gamble was a last minute inclusion for a running player (Wojack), and would probably have been listed before the game as the Cats 5th or 6th most dangerous forward option (Johnson, Mooney, Chapman, Longergan definitely ahead) and he tore Everitt apart. Similar story against Collingwood when Wood and Bryan cut him up.

You make a very good point though. He is there at the moment to allow Morris and Hargrave to get more suitable jobs. There is not much point playing shaggy on someone that is too big for him, when he will likely struggle, and then leaving shaggy's more suited opponent to someone who can't handle him. That way you end up with 2 losing positions, whereas if you leave Everitt there maybe you only lose 1.

What suprised me was that Wight didn't hold his spot. I rate Tiller higher than Wight, but not as a defender, and right now i would back Wight to do a better defensive job than Everitt. So, i would have used Wight in the defensive role, and released Everitt up the field somewhere, and sent Tiller back to run around for Willi.

everitt isn't fit enough,

he wouldn't last 2 seconds on a wing. The reason he isn't running is because he's not fit enough, not because he's not on a wing.

These days it's a perogative for a hbf to run off his man.

Sure skinny isn't a good enough defender just yet but keep in mind we played against geelong here. He has been ok against other opposition. Besides he's played a handfull of games. We have persisted with shaggy for years with limited success, takes time to make a defender.

Yer your right, I would have expected him to be able to handle the Gamble role, the only thing is that Gamble played a lot from the goalsquare while against Brisbane he played on Brennan more up the ground and did a good job so maybe hes not comfortable on the last line of defence yet.
