who would you put in at second??

I'm saying right off the bat here that I'm talking specifically the last ten years, so Ablett and Lockett would be out as their best was well past them.

Personally, after Carey, I would say the best forward of the last decade, is Matthew Richardson. The guy has had nothing short of a WOEFUL team around him almost his entire career, and the delivery to him has been nothing short of EDFL standard. Yet statistically he stacks up against any other forward in the last decade.

thoughts?

One C.Grant was seen as the best player in the league in '97 (the umpires thought so, so did then carlton coach david parkin) playing CHF, that gets him alteast a nomination.

C.Grant = Footballing God

Amazing effort by neitz considering he only started playing forward in 1998.

I'd still say Richo on those stats though.

Id have to say Ablett. As much as I love Richo, Ablett when on song was easily the most talented player Ive seen. The only word I can use when I remember watching his 'instincts' is Natural.

Richo on the other hand is hard to compare against other players alot of the time because he is so different, so unpredictable, so fast and so powerful.

He hasnt played as a true Centre Half Foward and he hasnt played as a true Full Foward either. But imagine if he had've spent his career at teams like Brisbane, Essendon or Port who have probably been the most dominant teams of his peak years.

You got to remember too, that he's only getting smarter, stronger and doesnt seem to be slowing down. If TW can build a skilled, fast midfield in the next 24 months, who's gonna stop Richardson?

one cant compare richo with lloyd, just cos lloyd is a better set shot, he isnt a more potent and powerful fwd, and richo has played 90% of his footy as a roaming fwd and chf, not ff out of the square.

also look at the teams, tigers have many been unskillful and shocking , the bombers skillful and successful.

if lloyd played 4 the tigers over the last 12 yrs , who would have been lucky to kick 200 goals.

if richo played for the bombers over the past 12 yrs, he would have bagged over 1000 goals, and not one would have COME FROM A DIVE!!!!, AND THE BUMBERS WOULD HAVE HAD AT LEAST 5 MORE FLAGS

RICHO > PRINCESS LLOYD

AND BTW, THOSE STATS SHOW THAT ABLETT SNR WAS THE GR8EST OF ALL, FRIGGEN FREAK!!! NO ONE COMES CLOSE OR EVER WILL

Totally agree. I still cannot believe how many morons blame Richmond's ineptitude of the last decade on him - when he's been their only consistent performer. He gets mauled by opponents, rarely gets any assistance from umpires, appalling delivery from teammates, has played in a terrible team and he still kicks 60 plus goals a year every season. I've seen him maul Geelong a couple of times with 2 defenders on him and he's still killed us. He might miss the odd sitter but he's got it right over 600 times. Even now, there is no better contested mark in the league.

As great as Ablett, Lockett, Kernahan were, they all started before Carey, so to keep to the original post, we can't include them.

Richo for me.

Lockett!

Carey the best forward?

Does anyone actually watch the AFL here though I am St Kilder fan no one has had the impact of one man.

Tony Lockett, the man was an enforcer that other players where afraid to approach he got great marks out of shere toughness and he was famous for his goal scoring abilities.

Even his impact in the later days of his career was tremendous he fostered the youth and opened up the game.

A true Icon of our game.

How many people oin this thread (this boofhead is the best example) are actually going to read the OP before opening their stupid mouths so they can say something stupid? Bloody stupidheads. That's what you are. ALL OF YOU!

Ablett or Lockett. Tough choice.

Kernahan should at least be mentioned. If you were to pick the 2nd best CHF of the last decade, it would be him.
Brereton ahead of Kernahan ignoring timeframe correlations. Lockett ahead of both of them and maybe ahead of Carey as well.

Yeah agree with all of that.

Lockett came off a ton in '95, then kicked tons in '96 and '98. He was kicking his tons during the H&A season too, not in finals like others since. He kicked double figures 7 times between 95-99. Plugger has to get the nod.

Stats are important but the main thing is the way a player can swing a loosing performance into an outsanding comeback.

Lockett can do that Carey cant.

Locketts an enforcer Carey dances around the hard issues.

Lockett leads Carey follows.

Long live St Kilda.

well Lockett sure showed us all in the 1996 Grand Final... :)

You are talking about Craven now are you??? Great enforcer...

That is why Lockett was a Captain at one of his clubs... oh wait he wasn't... so the clubs know how much of a leader he was... didn't he have a cry about not getting his old number back when he tried to comeback??? yeah Great Leader...

where the f**k have you been for the last 15 years???

Carey 1. I've neve seen a player single handedly win a game off his boot so many times this bloke did. He is easily the best player I have seen play.

Lockett 2. Unbelievable player. His accuracy in front of goals was second to none. He'd take on his direct opponent and a loose man and still beat them.

Hard to seperate these 2, but for me, Carey just in front. Perhaps it's because Carey played at CHF, whilst Plugger played at FF.

Lloyd has to be up there BTW.
