Well, 2020 seems not to have been a good year for anyone related to the Giants - neither our current players nor ex-players seem to have covered themselves in glory. Patton, Smith, Scully, McCarthy, Tomlinson, Marchbank, Ahern, Bonar, Plowman, WHE, Treloar all quite poor or injury prone. (OK, that's cherry-picking; Shiel & Steele have been good.)
Essendon’s boom off-season recruit Jye Caldwellhas had a nightmare start to his four-year, big money contract at the Bombers with the club confirming he has suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out for months.PLAYERCARDSTART6Jye Caldwell

I’ve been pretty routinely critical of our club and rightfully so but one has to think we managed Jye Caldwellconservatively and in hindsight perfectly.PLAYERCARDSTART6Jye Caldwell

Dons stick him straight in the guts because he sees himself as a midfielder and he immediately pings a string.

100% thinking exactly that when I saw the news on Jye - sometimes the players don't know what they don't want to know.Essendon’s boom off-season recruit Jye Caldwell has had a nightmare start to his four-year, big money contract at the Bombers with the club confirming he has suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out for months.

Hasn't been a great year for the current Giants players either!Has not been a good year for ex-Giants players
Jezza, Hately and Caldwell all with lower body injuries
Scully retired, Patton questionable whether he plays another AFL game ever again
Shiel also injured on the weekend
Marchbank is quite the talent but he’s also really injury prone. Will be 25 by the time he’s fit again, time starting to slip away.Left along time ago and didnt really play many games but Marchbank may have done a ACL
It would be interesting to track the exs and games played and games missed as so many have not had a good run with injuries
I remember at the time hearing someone of note (possibly Leon) saying that of all the players that had left, Marchbank hurt the most. That was pre Shiel, and every one after that, but pretty sure included Treloar.Left along time ago and didnt really play many games but Marchbank may have done a ACL

He needed to hold on until Ryan Griffen retired, he was Griff's natural successor ... but at a time where we still had all of our midfielders (Treloar had departed, but still had Shiel, Kelly, Dev Smith with eyes on a midfield spot, Ward, Hopper just drafted etc) it was understandable for him to go somewhere where he was practically guaranteed a spot. And to be honest, perhaps we didn't see his potential to be quite as high as he has reached?Steele is the exception, he is flying. Would’ve been nice to get more out of him but he was at the time of peak Giants.
Jon Patton retired - effective immediately.
Patton announces shock retirement, apologises for inappropriate behaviour
Jonathan Patton has announced his retirement at age 27www.afl.com.au
Will always hold a special place in Giants' history as our first ever national draft selection. Never had a clear run, due to his injuries. But the revelations around his inappropriate dealings with women will unfortunately muddy his legacy.
Hope that you get the help you need, Jon, and can move forward in life.
Despite getting a hard time, off loading Scully and Patton with associated salary cap dump.was a terrific move in hindsightWe saw him at his best, and then he left the club at the right time.
Yep, despite our despondency at getting nothing in exchange, it has definitely proven to be the correct move. Allowed us to move ahead with other players at the time.Despite getting a hard time, off loading Scully and Patton with associated salary cap dump. was a terrific move in hindsight
