Was a better effort from Essendon than I expected. Both teams looked a little off though, was definitely pre-season.

Was interesting that Essendon were making the All Stars look slow.

how did chris egan go in the 2nd half?

from the bits and pieces i saw of the 1st half he was doing well on the wing and half forward

2nd half was either bench of key position defender, as you would expect wasn't too impressive in either position. Looked pretty good in the first quater on the wing though.

can anyone confirm- is #41 for the bombers houli or chartres???

41 was most definately Houli, Leroy Jetta was wearing 40.

Obviously Essendon haven't got season 2007 jumpers in as of yet and are wearing 2006 jumpers, because Leroy's number 7 (formally Solomon) would have been too big as would Houli's 43 (formally Rioli).

41 is Chartres number and 40 is D_ick's number for 2007, however neither of those two played and Houli and Jetta wore those numbers tonight.

Jetta: Very classy player, you can just tell he'll be a good player. Disapointing that Bradley and Dempsey didnt play was expecting them to get a run.

Players that impressed me from Essendon: Lonergan, Jetta Mcphee (thought he played very well and looks back to his best), Davey.

cheers for the clarification.

I'm loving the look of Houli. His confidence seemed to grow a lot as the game went on, played a really good last quarter.

No Houli? Thought he was very impressive.

Agree with all the others you mentioned though.

He was good but he looks to handball at every opurtunity maybe thats just a confidence thing but its been noted in intra club threads i've seen. I think the was the 3rd best of our draftee behind Davey and Jetta. Hislop i thought would of gone a little better than he did.

I disagree, I thought he was better than Jetta (who was impressive also). I didn't think he handballed unnecessarily at all. He seemed happy to run the lines, and kick to leading forward. Skills were very good by foot, and he ran to the right spots and looked a lot more composed than most players do making their debut. Jetta was all class when he got the ball, but didn't get it enough to say he was more impressive than Houli IMO.

Houli's handpasses set up 2 or 3 goals, also kicked a goal himself. Very good first game IMO. Showed a lot of confidence as the game went on.
