How about this for Christmas Day:

Play a second game on Christmas Eve but with no crowd. The players, officials and networks hold the match and all sign confidentiality agreements for the result.

Then the game is broadcast Christmas Day/Night with CGI crowds, perhaps using crowd footage from the previous encounter between the teams so you have the right colours and authentic celebrations of boundaries and wickets.

Don't tell me you wouldn't watch.

This is what happens when you go to a champagne breakfast and forget to have breakfast.

may as well broadcast a simulated video game, takes less effort

it's nonsense though. why is a team flying to perth (because they always have a home game on Boxing Day) on xmas day any better than just playing a game? It's very silly from all parties involved and it should have been resolved years ago. You just do either a Sydney derby or a Melbourne derby.

I’d say the main argument against a derby is it would be a made for TV game with poor crowd attendance and the derby’s are their big crowd attractions.

Ok, what on earth is the context here?

First post:

  • play a game behind closed doors, keep results a secret and then televise on Xmas day as if it's a "live" match
  • reply was you may as well broadcast a simulated video game if going to that extent
  • The Simpsons have essentially done that simulated option just with NFL, so get them onboard for a cricket version

If there is a day on which no sport is played, that is the day to schedule a match because there is nothing else to watch!
NRL did it for years on Good Friday before AFL finally woke up.

On which day is no sport played?

If you're referring to Xmas day, then that's not an accurate claim - the NBL has been playing at least 1 match on Xmas day for a few years and they scheduled 2 matches this year

I would have had the Sixers host the Spuds in a day game on Christmas eve with the Scorchers home game being the only match on Boxing Day. A full day of test cricket and 2 BBL games is overkill if you're likely to watch both like me.
You got to say spud on the internet.
You sporting gun.

Last night further proof that the biggest problem facing the BBL is Cricket Victoria and their perennial mismanagement of player development.
The Cricket Victoria who made 2 of the last 3 Shield Finals and have a team in the top 2 of all three competitions as things stand?

Unless you think the approach of "who can't get a game for WA or NSW this year?" is somehow viable long term.

Victoria have never had any problem winning stuff but they produce an embarrassingly small proportion of the country’s elite players given the size of their catchment

imo the two are not unrelated
