Fall and Fall of Big Bash

Jesus H Christ, we've just had a domestic cricket match bring 50,000 people in on NYE and people are still complaining?

I honestly give up.

The fact that there's bugger all to do in Adelaide on NYE with a family is not in any way a reflection on the quality of cricket being played.

On the field, this competition sucks this season, and it's particularly polarising cos we're seeing this all-time test series at the same time.

That’s the thing, the big bash has never been about good cricket and its fans don’t care about good cricket. It’s somewhere to keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours with music and fireworks, the cricket’s irrelevant and it appeals to non cricket fans.

It’s just a shame the kids entertainment has to take up a key slot in the summer when the tests are on, robbing players of a chance to play real cricket and put pressure on under performing players in the test side.

In footy you judge the strength of a team by the bottom 6
In cricket, you probably judge it by the bottom 3 and some of the bottom 3's are just abysmal
For all the talk of big name star players, unless they improve the bottom 3 in all the teams, the league will be mired in mediocrity

In the early days of the BBL the best players were the older ones - Hodge and M Hussey in particular.

Unsurprisingly, those with decent techniques in the longer form. Lynn just caught the tail end of that era.
Klinger, Katich

But you won 10 years ago? Domestic t20 comps have devoured the international cricket calendar like you wanted?

The game was shit btw, and we had one of the all time test matches which just finished.

The Test match was great.
T20 is great.
These things can co exist, and T20 seems to be a good vehicle to draw new fans toward Test Cricket.
It seems the anti T20 people are more flexers, than actual cricket fans.

I tune in every night and I’m a big fan of the big bash.

What can I say I’m a big fan of any cricket and I’m enjoying the contest.

Just 1 thing, why do Sydney and Melbourne need 2 teams?

Western Australia has 1 team, South Australia has 1 team, Queensland has 1 team, Tasmania has 1 team.

Surely the competition would be stronger with a 6 team competition with 1 Victorian team and 1 New South Wales team.

Less players equals higher quality games.

Who decided 8 teams was better than 6 what am I missing?

Also being a 10 game comp every team could’ve played each other twice.

Now that we have the Stars and Gades with the Sixers and the Thunder I would never want to lose teams but surely when the comp was created we only needed 1 rep from Victoria and New South Wales and everybody would’ve been happy.

2 reasons, the Vics were unbeatable so they wanted to split them in 2 to give the lesser states a go and they thought that derbies would bring in the crowds.

Still running with this lie?

The truth: It was Cricket NSW and Cricket Victoria who wanted 2nd teams to help them develop and retain young talent, rather than risk losing them to other states offering a game.

Same thing happened last year when CA tried to start a new 1-team-per-state T20 women's comp. NSW and Victoria cracked the shits and demanded they get 2 teams each. Fact.
