Hes an amazing DTer, seems like all his picks have pretty much paid off.

Definitely has been very strong on his original team. Love that he went Swan, Ablett and Bartel. Is working beautifully at this point. I know I am kicking myself that I went Swan instead of Ablett costing me about 46 points a week (as Swan vs Ablett points difference doubled as he would be capt each week).

It must be added (from what I can see) he has no in game injuries (of note) that would have cost him (both points and trades).

The one thing that might effect him compared to others is that (if I read it right) he doesn't have a heap of cash in the bank and a couple of his rookies are missing games (Shoey, Duncan and Hitchcock) that (I guess I hope) will effect his upgrades later.

But if you asked me whos shoes I would rather be in right now, I reackon it would be his!

Hes an amazing DTer, seems like all his picks have pretty much paid off.

Don't know how you could say this BB.

Clark? Tippett? Medhurst?

I'm amazed he has hung on to all 3 of them.
And I personally don't think his team is that special. He definitely has lady luck on his side - it was very risky not starting with Brown and Riewoldt and it's paid off. Harvey and Pav could easily have gone down instead.

But I do respect his conservative approach to trades. I got rid of Clark and Tippett this week and they pull out their best scores. Still not convinced on them yet and if they continue to lose money, combined with the fact he hasn't generated any money yet, he could be in trouble.

I meant that his speculative "cash cow" type picks have all paid off. Clark and Tippet should have been picked as keepers, so the jury is still out, they both could come good.

Medhurst I overlooked, again it is a bit early to tell, he could come good.

I agree that he has had a lot of luck, same as what I had at the start last year, I had only used 1 trade at this point. However things change very very quickly and I know that all too well.

WRT my round 2 trades, I made 2, Clark->Sandi, Ball->Mckenzie

Hitchcock, Shuey and Duncan might not be back straight away and if so, he's losing more ground (cash wise)...

Thanks for round2 trades, I'll update stats.

Interesting that a couple of the coaches made the Roberts --> Rockliff/Pods trade. Something that would go against the Golden Rules as no cash gain has been made and the points gain, if any, would be quite small. I guess they felt they needed the extra cash that Rockliff/Pods will generate and it was well worth a trade.

The Gold Standard and The Baxters seem to have a lot of cash up their sleeve now. Be interesting to see what decisions they make over the next couple of weeks. Whether they decide to pounce on say Swan/Selly/Hayes or move to fix the god awful forward situation most coaches are facing.

I did it for 2 reasons - cover and cash.

I was trying to crystal ball things, and planned to get a DP gun into my midfield this week, and hoped that Rohan would come in in soon, so that when Pods peaked I could d/g him to Rohan, then move the DP gun forward and Rohan into the middle.

Things have changed now, and I will be upgrading a forward this week instead.

Pods should be good cover (in fact I think Ill start him over Ziebell this week) for a while, especially with Hitchcock out.

Interesting that every team got one of Rockliffe or Pods besides the non trading Team Director.

If he has no money he could be in a fair bit of trouble. I wouldve downgraded Medhurst to Pods last week if i was him. You need the cash to get in Swan, Hayes, Selwood ect now.

I also did the sideways trade of Roberts to Pods. I did this for a few reasons.

- I needed greater Cover, due to now starting a rookie forward
- Roberts was struggling to score and even if he played games he wouldnt make much money. Games were also a concern
- I liked what i saw in Pods and expected him to play the next 3 games due to wins. Didnt occur this way but he should still play next few rounds
- He only needed two more games to get to 200k + which would mean he has already made you enough cash if he gets dropped.
- Also looking to bring in that DP in Mcneil or preferably Rohan into my forward line and i needed players who were going to make money fast.

How on earth has TD got to that rank without a trade. Im not sure if bananabus can finish higher than TD now. And alot of those names seem to be doing quite poorly..Perhaps im missing bigger picture.

Too early to tell who will finish higher. As it stands, in my opinion, my team is much better than his, which is fair because I have used more trades than him.

Not sure if you have all noticed but Im going ultra-offensive this year, will be 10 trades down before round 10.

If this is the case, are you putting an emphasis on upgrading to the 'safe and sound' premiums (As opposed to riskier options, for example say a Sylvia or the Dreaded Chapman) to counter the potential for zeros in the latter periods of the year, when presumably you won't have sufficient trades/cover?

That was a massive sentence.

Im interested to see how many of them jump on cunningham next week. ESPECIALLY Team Director. Last year he didnt trade any mid rookies until after round 10 i think it was last year and sucked every ounce of price rise out of them. This year cunningham is arguable the most hyped up player to debut during the season this season. Unfortunatly he has probably debuted a bit early. Would of been nice to see him debut round 7 or 8 imo so we could have a little more time to gain some cash from the mid rookies. Will be interesting to See if director jumps aboard or if he sits and lets his cash cows continue to generate money

No.

Short answer for a long sentence. :p

I am however putting an emphasis on keeping the rookies that I think are the safest...

The interesting points for mine:
11/12 coaches traded in one of Pods or Rockliff
8/11 preferred Pods over Rock
5 of them chose to trade out Hitchcock (personally think this a little odd seeing how he should be available for selection this week - he hasn't been that bad, whether he get's selected is another matter though - just think 1 trade is worth more then ~70k)
5 of them traded out an underperforming mid-priced forward - Warren/Medhurst/Wright.

Overall was pretty standard trading this week. Seems a few will have a lot of cash saved up so will be interesting to see which upgrade options they choose in the coming weeks. TD in an amazing position - ran like God with Riewoldt though.

I will also be trading really hard very early. This is for a few reasons.

  • Due to the amount of rookies and the high scoring of the rookies so far this has caused Guns to fall in price even more than other years. The price of all the players in DT adds up to a certain amount. This remains the same all year. So if heaps of rookies play games early they make lots of money than this means Guns have to drop in price more for the whole salary to remain constant.
  • Dual Position, this will save trades later on. I will also be trading in only DP forwards from now on. Sylvia, Chapman, Goodes, Harvey ect.
  • Best 22 rookies. This year more than other years there seem to be players that a rookies that will play 22 if they don't get injured. Im talking about players like Maguire, Silvagni, Nason, Martin, Trengove, Bastinac, Fyfe, Cunnington ect. If you have these players and keep one for the whole year on the bench or until another comes along than you shouldn't cop too many zero's

I think Pods will turn out to be the better choice and i think he was at the time. Cant believe 3 went Rocky over Pods and i think one was chook raffle (Skank).

As for trading out Hitchcock i cant believe that. It makes you bugger all money and means you cant get as many top end premiums into your side. These people may have to settle on Selwoods,Vince ect rather than Swan, Montagna's.

Have a look at his changevalue. He's over $200k behind The Gold Standard.

Obviously doesn't feel he needs to chase the cash this early.

I've used 3 trades myself and done one upgrade.
This is a big point. Obviously a great start for Director without using trades but he is also going to struggle to generate cash for the rest of his team. He is riding the Ablett/Swan/Bartel train but soon most people will have midfields which can compete with those 3. Eg an Ablett/Bartel/Stanton/Gibbs combo or something similar.

Cash generation is not as important as saving trades, but still cannot be overlooked.

I'm not sure, but i'm pretty sure this is wrong.

No, it's right. The total player payments stay the same. When we have a lot of high scoring early (particularly with rookies), players prices drop quickly; more than the ~10% that is expected.

Ah, k, my bad. :( Guess you learn something new in DT every day :D

So how come Ablett isn't getting any cheaper.... :p Girlfriend effect is non existent.
