doesn't matter if the price premium goes to number 16 or to 60, the price of #1 would still roughly be the same.
Huh? Premium draftees cost an extra $4k for every rank they are higher than base-price draftees. The draftee base price only moves to match the adjusted MN, but the #1 pick is the base price plus $4000 x the number of premium draftees, hence Swallow carrying a $100k surcharge if the premiums run to the end of a 25-man first round.

Ignoring premium rookies;

2010 - 17 premium draftees (priority + first round)
Scully - $157,500
Base - $89,500
Diff. - 17 x 4000 = $68,000

2009 - 16 premium draftees (first round)
Watts $150,600
Base $86,600
Diff. 16 x 4000 = $64,000

2008 - 10 premium draftees (first ten only)
Kreuzer $123,500
Base $83,500
Diff. 10 x 4000 = $40,000

There were 25 first round draft picks

These players will all be separated by the same amount (probably 4000 like every other year, although may change)

I dont know what your arguing or talking about. Although i guess because the first round was so much longer it means the price of the first pick will be even higher.

eg: if the base is 86000 than 25 x 4000 is 100000
100000+86000 = 186k so i guess that is where Monty has gotten Swallows number from.

Although this year due to alot more first round picks that 4000 difference will become a bit less maybe 3000 which would make sense

25 x 3000 = 75000

75000+86000=161000

So it could be a good assumption to make that 3000 will be the difference between draftess next year due to the longer first round. 161k for Swallow sounds just about right in comparison to Scully last year.

Yeh, it all depends whether VS only load up the top 16 picks or the full 25.

Not sure why they would load up 25 picks, it's not like pick 20 is any better than last year, just a case that the first round went longer.

I had word from the horse's mouth last year (admittedly before the official price calculations) that the full first round would all get premiums.

Scully 157k last year i doubt swallow will be 180k this year. Yes there is a longer first round, maybe it wont be $4,000 increments then? or maybe it is only the first 16 that get a premium, time will tell. will be good to get some cash if swallow and gaff are cheaper though

Barlow is $456,200. Monty has him down as $456,100. Spot on! Ablett is $499,200 though ($43,00 more apparently) which is a little bit more than what Monty has ($494,300).

Just proves that the MN really is a myth.

Now we just need rookie prices (for certainty) and all discounts and we are ready to go. I suspect there will be an article on Swallow soon though.

I suspect that Ablett price implies a price premium on Gold Coast players, though how extensive it is I do not know. I'm assuming a flat $5000 premium on recycled players at least. Probably also expect the kids like Toy, Iles, Stanley et al who played VFL last year to get a significant premium.

I have updated the Fanplanner with $5k premiums in both DT and SC for the eight experienced recycled players at Gold Coast, plus a $20k premium for last year's GC VFL side. It probably won't be $20k, but better to err on the expensive side I reckon.

I just can't wrap my head around your constant pricing angst. Everyone's in the same boat.
the supposed reason for it is to prevent everyone from picking the same players but it will happen no matter what thats why its so shit and as i always say its the trading that proves whos good and whos shit

I actually read a thread the other day making valid points about not selecting David Swallow next year at his price. No chance that would happen if he was rookie priced.

Heck, I've seen you mention that you won't be picking up first rounders because of the price- players that others will be happy to pay more for. To me that says that starting teams actually have changed because of the increase in rookie prices.

If we all select the same team and organise to make the same trades? Do we all win a car?

I like your thinking.

Anyway in regards to having the same team, many people say this when people have at least 6 different players in the starting 22 lineup. 2 different players makes a massive difference let alone 6, thats how i see it anyway. All teams have the common denominators because those players show the most value and are required picks - cant change that.

Yep good point DWD, there are differences in every team. The problem which I don't think many consider is that if your picking a Knights, it goes without saying that many (if not everyone) also sees him as a good option. If you decide to go without him you are making a fair risk. Most I would say are not willing to make that risk when they see that type of value.
