Mega Thread Farewell our Champs - Boomer, Drew, Spud & NDS all gone at season's end

I was at the American College Football game at ANZ Stadium over the weekend so I missed the big game and I'm genuinely sad because of that. Instead I have my memberships to a young Giant supporter I know and his mum, probably should have cancelled them before they arrived to teach them a lesson about changing teams (from Hawthorn of all teams).

Boomer played his first game the same year I begun to follow North, the one constant over the time.

He was never my favourite player but he has been such a fantastic player over that time and it is clearly the wrong move to delist him. You can see it hurts him and Drew the most.

I'll be sad when ever it is we finish this year more then any other. Bloody legends.

Last night was "Farewell our champions" night.

There are finals starting in a fortnight. As it turned out we are on the easier side of the draw if you can call it that.

What a nonsensical evening of football. No form hit, no players fine tuning for September.

Last nights effort signals we are going to get hammered in Adelaide.

It ain't clicking just like that.
Wake up

Did you watch the GF?

Can't carry guys that don't tackle and put their bodies on the line 100% of the line.
Yeah but North wasnt playing . Dont know what that has to do with my post .

Harvey couldn't/wouldn't tackle and apply appropriate levels of defensive pressure, and on many occasions didn't put his body on the line when he should have.

He may be a champion of the club, all-time great, but he's also a factor in why we've wasted 2016 down the shitter.

Our coach was a factor, injuries were a factor and half our ****ing team were a factor, should we get rid of them all and the medico's and sports science and physios as well...

I'd piss off Scotts as well except for the fact he's shown some balls and got rid of senior players who let us down on a regular basis (and I include Wells in that list).

But I watched enough football this year to see that Harvey's liabilities were hurting us and set a poor example to less experienced players.

All four should have been riding around in cars yesterday. I get how the announcement got rushed. But I don't understand how any of them could have got to the last couple of weeks of the season without being told or realising for themselves that 2016 would be it for them, and not had time to process and accept it.

Every team has its sheep dog ;-)

Harvey, Drew and Dal are in denial. They are finished..end off.

Yep. I am cringing a bit at Boomer right now. I think Buckley's denial of any interest will sit him back on his ass a bit. The way I read it, Buckley was basically saying 'as if'.

Let it go Boomer. It is getting further and further away from 'your terms'.

As I have said before H2H our coaching staff and selection committee are largely to blame for this, they wouldn't drop them when they didn't perform and blowing smoke up people's arses by saying things like our best is good enough to match it with the best.
Just this constant rhetoric of we are good enough, when we even blind freddy could see we weren't in the state we were in.
Like the players, the coaching staff, outwardly were in denial.
As has been pointed out in other threads about ben10 requiring a second opinion of his review to see if it was fair, if true, why does it take until the end of the year to shove a rocket up someone's arse.
I am sure in most work places if you were underperforming your boss would pull you aside and have a "chat" rather than let you continue to decline until your yearly review.
Our club has become complacent with letting things slide so it seems.

But you're kidding right . He has never kicked that many goals in a season and he is 38 still running rings around 20 year olds . He was clearly our best player . I think it was the ineptitude of the clown that coaches the team not to drop out of form players . Even with the injuries he never tried the younger hungrier players that could have replaced them . I don't put Harvey in the catagory of out of form players . Look at the dogs if you're playing shit your out simple as that .

The question 3 of the 4 need to ask themselves is would they have coped in that GF with that pressure all over the ground?

Form in 2016 suggests a no from me.

Funny you say that, watching yesterday I noticed that despite the extreme pressure the scoreboard 2/3 of the way through the game showed two very accurate teams (albeit mostly from crumbing goals). I couldn't help but imagine the big Drew lining up for a set shot 35m out...

Can't disagree with this. Backing dead horses is a big problem at our club in recent years.

Harvey had an okay year, a few great games and a lot of average / solid ones. But I think you are kidding yourself if you believe the bold. Not saying he wasn't putting in and earning a game but he, like quite a few of the older blokes was mixing plenty of okay with his good. That's not unreasonable for a 38 year old mind you.
