Re: Farrer League

What is the go with Tom Nightingale from that sh#t publication commonly referred to as the DA???? He seems to think he is the most insightful football thinker in the Riverina but he seems to know jack sh*t. Why would Henty, Osborne, Lockhart & Culcairn come to the Farrer league?? There is no juniors in the Farrer league and Wagga juniors will not change their structure and the AFL don't have the balls to change it either. And the above mentioned clubs also draw players out of Albury - do you think they want to drive all the way from Albury to Temora/Ariah Park/Ardlethan and back again?? I don't think so....

Also, Nightingale's comments about Rivcoll are starting wear a bit thin. For god sakes I think we all know by now that they had a crap year last year and they will probably battle again this year, but do we have to read about it in every column that he writes. Obviously he likes sticking the boot into the battlers but he'll never write about the how Gullie has just run around plundering all the other local teams of players and not even try to bring recruits into the Riverina. If he's that bored why not take up a hobby like playing marbles or something and then tell us about that - it would be more interesting then reading about Rivcoll every week.

Too right Flying High. Why is it any different now to 25 years ago when Henty, Holbrook and Culcairn left a Wagga based league, to compete closer to Albury.
During the late 70 & early 80's their local juniors were increasingly moving to Albury for work etc. and either played in the O and M, or in the existing the Hume League.
If any thing the situation is more pronounced now, as very few young local footballers live on farms or work locally in these towns.

Agree with you flyin high its about time little tom nighty wearer left the pigs alone and realised that he is only doing them more harm by the negative press. Oops I forgot , everyone knows Tommy doesnt know shit from clay , every time he take s a dump he wipes his elbow..... He should get over his Les Muir jealousy and start talking the footy up and he would find he would get alot more crediability and clubs would actually talk to him and he wouldnt have to make everything up. We all know country footy is struggling at the moment so why cant the media help out and try to get positive stuff out there and make footy appealing to the youngsters again. It might even sell a few papers or them....:)

Heny, lockhart, osborne and culcairn would come 2 the farrer league becuase they r closer 2 the rock nd gullie nd wat r u on bout farrer not having juniors only marrar nd rivcoll dnt have juniors they will have 2 change the whole system i agree nd the teams tht go into the farrer wil just have 2 sacrifice those players from albury nd make the whole system work better

Your logic is as flawed as your grammar.
So Culcairn and Henty should be prepared to lose all of their Albury based players, and travel 180km to Ardlethan and Temora, to boost footy in the Farrer.
They would fold after 1 year.

Re: hoos the team to beat

i think gullie mite be the team 2 beat this year nd i reckon the ladder will go like this
1. gullie
2. TRYC
3. jets
4. temora
5. marrar
6. rivcoll
anybody noe anything about the jets new recruit from the sanfl

Cant see this particular ladder changing too much, maybe swap marrar with temora. what r selections for this week? how many new players to debut or return from other clubs to CAK, this week would be half the side wouldnt it?

Coming from lockhart i think that this talk about clubs going from the hume to the farrar is a joke..Lockhart left the farrar league 25 years ago and there is nothing that would make them want to go back..Henty almost didnt have a team this year all gaining a few albury boys saved their club.and if the were to lose them they would not be able to field 2 sides.. Culcairn is of too higher quality team to go the the farrar league and why would make them want to give up their albury players that they have worked so hard to get to become as good as they are.. Being part of the hume league system i think that no hume league club at the moment would want to join the farrar.. Especially because their juniors play on different days and they have been talking about changing that but of course it hasn't happened..

Re: Farrer League

Today's Border Mail says that Jason Wild has retired from Yarrawonga and once he has recovered from a hamstring injury, he hopes to play the rest of the year with his brothers at Collingullie.

How much money must Gullie be paying this year with all their recruits???

They would have a massive turnover of players wouldnt they? Are they blooding any juniors?

ryan dean would be about it after spending a year out at lockhart.. all their good juniors have left the club like keenan hanigan to turvey park and tom oconnel and steve jolliffe to osborne..

Speaking of star transfers, is the rumour true that Nathan Mcdonald may be packing up and heading to Deniliquin?

Re: Farrer League

Looking at the results yesterday you could probably say the recommendations relating to the restructure of footy in the Riverina cant come quickly enough. Marrar looks like they are in trouble and the Rivcoll boys look like they may not have improved much. The only promising sign may be the improvement of Temora who may be on the march this year.

What do others think are the future of the competition? Looking at the Collingullie list they would have been better suited to be in the RFL than North Wagga.

Yeah i think you might be right with the collingullie and north wagga comment the only team that will come anywhere near gullie is the rock whereas north wagga will be much more competitive
rivcoll might actually win a game if marrar dont put their heads down

Re: Farrer League

Dont disagree moist but to be honest when you hear about the calibre of players at the Gullie who wouldnt agree they would be better positioned in the RFL than North Wagga.

Overall judgements can be reserves until later but with only 6 teams the future of the league is looking very shaky after reading the results from Round 1.

Did you actually have a look at a game Guru or just sit back and look at results. Sometimes the socreboard doesnt reflect the actual game (Marrar made Gullie look good)and only one round has been played so I wouldnt be that quick to condemn the league. The last thing we need is more negative comment towards the farrer league, unless you want to see it die? Sometimes I think thats what the NSW/act Afl want so its less clubs they have to worry about. One game doesnt make a season and every season is different. Yeah Gullie have a good list but at what cost? And how long before the locals that arnt getting a game get the nitty grits and leave. Not a long term gain in my view.

Re: Farrer League

yes agreed gullies list looks better than north wagga, than again so does the rock, temora, northern jets, possibly marrar.
but then again i'm not bagging north wagga, they may have bitten off more than they can chew this year, but they now have a base for the juniors to work towards and will find their feet eventually, good on em for having a crack and get off nw's back. same as marrar and rivcoll. rivcolls worst year is behind them which was last year, they have hired better coaching staff and hopefully have something to build on now. gullies list is strong, but what happens when sparks leaves??? which can't b far off with his age, how many disappear with him? thats not a team when so many players from gullie only last a year. in saying that it doesn't take many recruits to build a side around prodimant players, like marrars pavitt and gornall. 2 players in a side with such class don't play in many loses, or lose but much, such the dominance of gullie this yr, but you can't prejudge a clubs future off one year let alone one ____ing round

Is there somewhere to read about the restructuring recommendations - or what are they?

Yes i agree phantom the rock jets game was similiar in the end the rock were the better team but the jets were hit with injuries during the game which didnt help them at all. i think the nsw/act needs to keep faith in the farrer league and hopefully things will improve in future years

Re: Farrer League

From what Ive seen of the Farrer League its class isnt too good!
No 18s is a downer. And the standard of 16s coming thru is very ordinary. Gullie and The Rock both struggling, no Marrar or Rivcoll. Not too sure of Jets and Temora im unsure about but its looking disgraceful.
Out at Mango the juniors are going great guns!
