Father sons 2014

Thanks to our shitness, not many played 100 games for us during the 80s and 90s.

I think we have Craig Lambert's kids coming through and a son of Maurice Rioli, but i'm not sure of their ages.

Lambert has three sons IIRC (and two I know are pretty talented), and he only played 96 games for us. They're from Queensland too.

What is the requirements bud? is it still 300 games or something enormous like that ?

Port Adelaide has a modified rule in place, valid until the club has been in the AFL for 20 years.

Until 31 October 2017, Port Adelaide can select any player whose father has made 200 SANFL appearances prior to 1997 for the Port Adelaide Magpies, North Adelaide, West Adelaide, Central District, Woodville or West Torrens.

It's strange that we have not had a legitimate father/son recruit.

We got Brett Ebert, whose Dad, Russell, played 391 games for us, but that was a fluke because according to the rules even Brett didn't qualify as a father/son recruit for us. It was just an AFL **** up that allowed his recruitment to happen, and was too late to change it once the error was discovered.

Now if the son of a player who played 391 games for us doesn't qualify as a father/son recruit then something is seriously ****ing broken.

Why did Brett not qualify? Russell's games were well prior to 1997.

Rule change. They were under different rules when Brett came through that meant he didn't qualify IIRC.

Yep, Russell played for us from 1968 - 1978 & 1980 - 1985. He played in the VFL for the Kangaroos in 1979.

The problem for Brett which wasn't picked up is that the former father / son rules for Port Adelaide were a certain number of games for Port in the 20 years prior to 1997. It was either 150 games or 200 games.

But because Russell played the season for the Roos, he didn't quite play enough games for us in that 20 year period prior to 1997.

I believe that was the proviso that wasn't picked up at the time.

Ah yes, I recall that being changed relatively recently.

Would James Aish's father have played enough games with Norwood to qualify, if Norwood was one of the clubs aligned to Port?

No, James' father is Andrew, he didn't play enough games for the crows to have taken him under any F/S rules applied to them. Now his uncle, Michael, certainly did.

Ah, OK. So Andrew Aish was kind of the Craig Ebert of the family?

I think the Crows' entitlement to pick up sons of SANFL players would have ended in 2011 anyway, we only got 20 years (ended in 2007) and I think all the WA/SA clubs are the same in that regard.

A minor insult to Craig ... ;)

Yep, their 20 period has come & gone

They may have some F/S's come up soon, Tyson Edwards' lad, Andy McLeod's etc.

More importantly, what sort of a name is "Malachy"?

So he wouldn't feel left out next to Zaine, Rhylee, Kyan, Cohen and Zakaria. Seriously some people need to be banned from naming kids.

Zaine's looking good. Named in the bests a few times as an underage. Picked the in VM squad as an underage. Will most likely grow to kpp height around 195

8 weeks into the season, have any prospects increased...

From what has been written Zaine Cordy is fast becoming the best Utility in the TAC Cup and Jayden Foster is doing some good things
