Well I've got a spare few minutes, and I'm bored, so I wanted to know if any others out there share one of my great passions... travel.

Where is your favourite city or town in the world? I'd opt for either Napoli or Madrid, with honourable mentions to Paris, Edinburgh, Perugia, Bologna, Barcelona and Prague.

In Australia, I'd put down Melbourne.

Anyone else? Some reasons why you like them?

QT, I didn't know you have travelled!

I love Greece, the people are really friendly (very much like Southern Italians) and Corfu was really cool. My mum was born in Salonika!

Geelong .... so much to do... so little time.

But seriously, was born in Greece, but wasn't old enough to appreciate the 'finer' things being so young while I was there. I'm not much of a traveller, so Melbourne for me.
Think I'm not cultured enough or too insular to be replying to this topic actually. ;)

Pfft.... now I've heard it all... someone from the Western Suburbs of Melbourne being insular and uncultured.... ;)

Favourite city? Easy..... Las Vegas! (But only when I win!)
Favourite travel memory? Walking on the Great Wall of China - just glad it wasn't last week!
Favourite Australian place? The Whitten Stand at the Whitten Oval on a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon in the good ol' days! Now? Playing the pokies at Crown! (But only when I win!)

Only had a brief trip to the states - couldn't live there - full of yanks.
Never been to Europe and no prospect of doing so.
Wherever I happen to be is fine by me.

Haven't done any travelling for 20 years

But do remember liking Hong Kong a helluva lot and San Diego was easily my favourite American City although you just have to like New York ...

Favourite Australian City ?

I don't have one really but Cairns and Hobart are both nice little towns. Newscastle is heaps of fun. Melbourne is the best big city and Sydney would be the greatest city on Earth if it wasn't so full of dickheads all the time !

cheers

I've seen my fair share of cities and towns on this planet of ours and each has it's own special qualities.

I lived in the US for two stints of eight months and enjoyed many places. New York is amazing, San Francisco is beautiful and San Diego was cool too. I spent a lot of time in a place called Seal Beach in LA which was pretty laid back.
In Europe, I enjoyed Prague and Krakow, for their beauty and culture, but the overall winner for me was Dublin(actually, Ireland in general).

When I went to Geelong, it was more a case of "so little to do... so much time."

I really liked my visit to Rio - must be equal with Sydney as the most spectacular city.

Unfortunately I read that Rio now had huge pollution problems with many of the beaches unusable due to effluent pollution.

I think the eagles had a line in 'the last resort':

Call some place paradise...kiss it goodbye.

Favourite Australian City - Melbourne (of course!)
Favourite US City - San Francisco (pretty, and similar to Melbourne)
Favourite European City - Amsterdam (my dad was born there and I lived there for a short time when I was a toddler).

My favourite city in the whole world is London, I just love everything about it. Paris is also amazing but the people there sort of ruined the experience  Though I found that the people in Paris were rude, but if you go into small little towns in France, they're so friendly and nice.
Favourite American city is New York, don't really like LA.

Also last year I went on a trip to the Maldives and that was fantastic, went to a small island called Paradise Island and it was spectacular.

Monte Carlo!! The glitz, the glamour, the famous people that live there, the grand prix track, and they also have some of the best golf courses in the world! Also have an awesome casino.

In australia...i love Adelaide. Its easy to get round...where i live its sorta in the middle of everything that i want to go to so everything is only really 5-10 minutes away. You can get across the CBD in 5 minutes. Its great!

Adelaide rocks.

It's clean, beautiful, accessible and not overpopulated... sensational - wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Marseille may not be the most beautiful city in the world, but it's where I was born. I also love Toulouse. Carlisle in the North of England is also a beautiful place to live, if you can ignore the cold winters.

As for Australia, Canberra by a mile, especially this time of the year when the temperature is always in the low 20s without a sniff of a breeze and not a cloud in the sky.

Jeez good on you Meg-me I can't stand the place personally.Give me Sydney every time.(although Amsterdam's pretty cool though not for any reasons that my mother would appreciate-LOL)

I've been to major cities in Europe and the states, but MELBOURNE is the best city in the entire world by far. Its great, so much culture and things to do. I'd never live anywhere else (yet Geelong is probably the best city in Australia to raise a family - the states best schools, beaches and living)

In sydney, its a case of 'take away the harbour and you are left with nothing). Melbourne should of got the olympics too.

The problem with Melbourne, is it's full of Melbournians. It's the with America, it's full of Americans... who I wish would stay there.
Melbourne does have one positive though... The flight out is excellent.
