Congrats on a super career lloydy....you are a champion..

Here are some of mine. Pls add yours/

1- round 3 99...13.4 against sydney and up to 4 opponents at once. i was there and towards the end the whole crowd was yelling..."lloydy!!! kick it to lloydy!!'' so he could break the record. This game really annouced him as a superstar

2-QF 2000- flogged the roos by 125....lloyd kicks 100 (7 for day i think?) crowd runs on...(me included) and we advancve to the prelim to dominate carlton.

3-Round 1 2006- 5 goals on ''LEO BARRY YOU STAR'' in the first quarter...first game after sydneys GF win.....and after everyone was saying barry was an out and out champion....lol not as big a champion as our big sledghammer!

4-round 22 2009- Need i say more. COLLOSUS hit on hawthorn gives us the direction we need to lift ourselves.

5- Mark of the year 2008- FK**N screamer!!!!! was one of my happiest moments when he took this mark....shut his critics up with a bag of goals also to if i remember correctly.

6- Coleman medal shootout with fraser Gehrig...(2003/04 maybe?) he ended up losing by a couple of goals i think....but the other bloke was playing for a top 2 team...

7- Round 3 2009- 5 goals BOG (IMO) against the blues to annouce "WE WERE WAITING'

8-2000 premiership...young gun FF becomes a superstar by spearheading the attack with 100 goals the most successfull individual team in history....and all as a young 20-sum-thing year old.

9- the 600 other times where the champion pluck a mark one on one....went back....(grass in air) and went bang straight through the middle.....how good where those shots from outside the arc in his prime...DEADLY

these are just some of mine...please out your conutless more favourate ML memories.

You are a superstar, mate.

1. Comeback game 2001 - He along with Jason Johnson tore North a new one.
2. Heritage Round 2003 - 6 goals in the first quarter and then 11 for the match as he breaks the Essendon goal kicking record.
3. Round 1 2006 - Just smashed Leo Barry.
4. Anzac Day 2003 - Kicked 6 or 7 goals against the grand finalists in the same game Cupido and Hird went nuts.

There are just so many to name but they are just a few.

I loved the day he kicked his 100th goal - a great friend of mine, who was rather chubby at the time - leapt over the fence to run out and congratulate Matty. Think I had that poster up in my office for years!!! :)

2001 v Nth Melbourne. 10 kicks for 9 goals to help spearhead the Bombers to the greatest ever comeback. The one he kicked out of mid air from the pocket highlighted a FF at the height of confidence!

Not a specific memory, but I used to love seeing him 99-01 on the lead and marking after beating his opponent one out by a few meters. Then going back to slot home another goal.

Also the day he kicked a bagful against the Eagles at the Dome. Very sweet.

Rd 17 (?) 2004 vs Port-No Fletcher. No Hird. Against a dominant Port side. First quarter he absolutely flattens Kane Cornes and sets the tone for a big win for the club.

Yeah Lloydy was awesome that night. Knowone gave us a hope of winning and Lloydy stood up, kicked 8 and flattened Chad Cornes...awesome performance.

Against Melbourne last year when most thought he was finished, came out and kicked 8 along with the MOTY, typifies his career, out and out champion. Will be missed.

Same here.

I was at ANZAC 03, I was at the 13 goal game, I was at the comeback game, but the way he stuck his finger up at everyone was a real credit to him.

I'll give a couple that haven't been mentioned yet:

- 2001 GF, 5 goals vs Mal Michael/Justin Lepptisch in a losing side

- Can't remember the year but it was vs WCE @ the Dome, didn't get a sniff in the first quarter and Sheeds actually benched him - he went on to kick 10 goals for the game.

- State of Origin 1997 vs SA; kicked three goals as a teenager playing along side Ablett and Lockett

That was the best game I saw him play. Stamped his leadership on the side and announced himself as the next captain of the club.

Yeah I remember this one, massive hip and shoulder delivered mid air. I was there. By the last quarter, when he lined up for goal the whole crowd was chanting his name - magic.

:thumbsu: for this list, would add 2001 Comeback to it.

THAT bump which put Chris Judd out of action for a few weeks and steered a brave young bombers team to a memorable victory over the blues in 08. Lloydy wasn't a thug, but knew how to use his body to influence a game.
I'll really miss him and I loved it back in the day when the crowd would be howling "Lloydy" worshipping a true champion of the game. I wish you all the best of luck for whatever course your life takes from here Matthew and hope you stay at windy hill to teach a young forward line everything you know.
