Fevola Rejects Contract

Fev's worth 800k a season to any club. There is room in our cap to give him what he's worth and his management know it. The Blues will give him 2.4k over 3 years and everyone will one happy. :thumbsu:

Is it not a concern to any Blues that Fevola may baulk at a contract that has a couple of behavioural clauses in it? The vast majority of footballers are disciplined enough to try and do the right thing by both their club and their own career. If Fevola is so worried about a 'no alcohol' clause or some such, is that a suggestion he lacks the mental fortitude to give his best, and do what is needed to be done for the Blues to be a serious premiership threat? Or is it a signal that he isn't willing to show the discipline that is needed for team success?

I am sure that no Cat players would now need to be on such a contract, although Steve Johnson obviously had his issues in years gone by.

It's probably more in the realm of old habits are hard to break.

The reason he didn't accept it was because of the behavior based bonus in the contract which is just a nice way of punishing him if he stuffs up.

Not worried at all. Just the normal argy bargy that happens with contract negotiations. He'll stay at Princes Park.

If I was Carlton I'd be thinking very carefully before offering him more than 650K/season or 3 years. To me the offer sounds quite fair.

With all the high draft picks Carlton have scored recently they will need some room in the cap in the coming years to keep those players are Princes Park. Could be tough to do if they give in to Fev's greed now and up the offer.

Why was it rejected? Not enough $? Or because of the "behavioral" clause?

I would have thought that 2 million over 3 years would be about right for Fev, maybe even a bit higher than expected.

660K/year on 1 player taking up 10% of the total salary cap. Throw in Judd on probably similar money and thats 2 players taking up 20% of the cap.

If Judd is on the supposed 1 million I think Fevola expected to be a lot closer to the mark especially as he is older and this may be his carreer high paying contract, Like Jerry Maguire - show me the money.

Just heard (on TV) by journalist John Ralph that Fevola's management team has rejected Carlton's $2 million three year deal.

If true this bloke is ####ing kidding himself. Don't get me wrong he can turn a game like few else. But geez he has given Carlton head aches for years. Incident after incident. Onfield and off. They could have been forgiven for de listing him before the season. So he manages to keep out of trouble and kick some goals for half a year. Now as a 27yo he is knocking back 2 million for three years? That is pathetic. Seriously I would not want a guy like that at my club. Supposedly another club is happy to pay about $800k a year? If I were Carlton I'd be tempted to say gtfo.

Sydney will be lucky to find enough money in the cap to keep Ryan O'Keefe. Our salary cap is completely full and we dont have any room in it to bring in a average player and we certainly dont have enough room for Fevola.

Everitt will give it away and the swans have been known to trade away decent players for cap relief so I wouldn't rule it out.

I doubt Fev would be unhappy with the money, just the behavioural clauses and behavioural based bonuses. From Carlton's perspective i think its fair enough and if Fev doesnt want to agree to the terms they should trade him. But i doubt Fev will leave now that the club is on the rise.

Wouldnt most of their players be put on the veterans list freeing up their salary cap??

You can only have 2 players on the "veterans list" and currently the Swans veterans list is full.

The problem is that Ryan O'Keefe's contract is expiring at the end of 2008 and he wants a new contract aswell as a pay increase (which he certainly deserves). The problem is our cap is completely full and wont be freed up until the end of the 2009 season.

At the end of the 2009 season we will have a tonne of room in the cap as players like Leo Barry, Michael O'Loughlin, Spida Everitt, Tadhg Kennelly and possibly Barry Hall will all be retiring and as you all know all those players are being paid quite alot.

The last big contract is always problematic, Fev knows this is the retirement plan contract, he can't really afford to go into it with a weak contract if he wants to maximise his nest egg from football.

the no d1ckheads policy doesn't apply anymore since you recruited everitt and hall melted down

The thing is Zvim, I don't think a nest egg is really relevant for Fev. 10 or 20 grand is not going to make too much difference for him in the long run.
I think it's coming down to his management who are going to try and screw Carlton over. Carlton have stuck by him, he should learn to re-pay the faith so to speak...either that or he can hit the bricks as far as I am concerned...
