Lol. It's actually such a sh*t self imposed contrived marketing moniker that Malbun puts on itself. The Sporting Capital. The Coffee Capital, The Home of Football, The People's Ground, The Culture Capital. I don't think there is such a naval gazing, try hard provincial city anywhere else in the world. Perthites really shouldn't try to emulate it. It's Sad.
The coffee capital is sad, along with the skinny jeans and puffy jacket mantles Malbun folk like to toot about. But the sporting capital has a nice ring to it.

I measure Melbourne's significance by the extent to which sour BF posters from other states are obsessed with it.

They'll get home finals in Wk2 (if results go their way) but every indication is that all teams will be in Perth for the prelims to allow for 2 weeks quarantine, giving 1 week of normal preparation in the lead up to the GF.
Port won’t be quarantining in Perth, SA and WA have quarantine free travel between each state. QLD is also scheduled to become a very low risk state in a week and a half so Brissy can play a PF at the GABBA and then travel straight to Perth without quarantine.

It's risky though. Presumably a single case in Brisbane in GF week sees WA reclassify it, forcing the Lions into quarantine. And cases in Brisbane aren't at all unlikely given its proximity to Sydney.

That's right, the AFL ain't gonna be taking any chances.

Oh yeah for sure, I expect that for Brisbane if they win their QF, they’ll stay in Adelaide and then fly back into Brisbane on the Friday/Saturday before their PF with their opponents, play at the Gabba and then the winner head straight to Perth. They won’t be spending the 2 weeks in Brissy. AFL could also send them to Perth for quarantine in the lead up to the PF if they don’t want to risk a case appearing in Adelaide.

But a Lions PF will be 100% at the GABBA as long as there is no new case before then in QLD.

2 positive cases in WA

Premier Mark McGowan reveals COVID-19 positive truck drivers entered WA from Sydney

Oi McGowan. Apparently you were meant to lock us down by now.

If it goes to WA, hope someone gets a sniffle as far away as Broken Hill and McGowan pulls the plug on the morning of the game.
The scare with WA is that he has shown in the past that he will ban crowds the day of the game. I think the AFL would want a iron clad assurance from whoever hosts that crowds won’t be locked out. Perhaps make vaccinations mandatory for attendance?
I think playing the Grand Final at Optus in WA would be the worst decision they could make.

All it will take is 1 case and the Premier will ban crowds and place the city into lockdown again.

SA another state who impose strict restrictions. Better to play it in QLD again if there are no cases.
And what if the WA Premier makes a decision last minute again that no crowd will be allowed at the game like last time?

Optus and Adelaide are way too risky in my opinion and should be the last venues considered for the event.
There doesn't need to be, the AFL are on ice dealing with McGowan. Play them in SA and Qld if able. You know that if they HUB for the full 4 or 5 weeks of the finals in WA that if local cases pop up he'll ban crowds, and don't say he won't.
Exactly. He will ban crowds with a single case.
And if WA get even a single case they will shut down with zero notice. The AFL would be insane to say yes to having the grand final there.

Tasmania is the least likely to get cases, and would love to fill a stadium to show the AFL what having their own team can offer.
if there a sniff of a case in Vic, NSW or Qld, he will shut down
If GF is in perth, someone has to have a runny nose on the other side of the country and they will shut down the GF
McGowan is crazy over in WA, couple of truckies test positive = border shut

Confirmed on Fox Footy tonight, Home Prelim Finals for Port and Brisbane should they earn them.

Melbourne and Geelong to host their next home final in Perth whichever week that is.

Port will not have any quarantine period in Perth for a potential GF, with Brisbane also not having to do quarantine as long as no new cases of covid pop up.

No need for a bye now. Play it on the 18th and get the season done.

I’d prefer some details before I believe the hysteria msm pedals.

They were negative two days ago. Each have had one vaccine shot (don't know how long ago) they made four stops at road houses in country towns yesterday .It is believed all contacts have been traced and isolated. They stayed at the depo and slept at the depo in Perth and have not been out in the community in Perth.
Seems like there is not much to be worried about and common sense says there is no need for any lockdown hysteria.

But but when qld had two truck drivers come in from sydney WA extended the medium risk for qld

So how does Port get two home finals when no other side in the competition get even one home final this year ?

Because SA doesn’t have any Covid cases? Pretty simple really and they have earned it.

We have been forced to quarantine numerous times on all our Victorian trips on return to SA so we absolutely deserve the home finals and have also been put through the ringer all year as others have.
