AFL has home jumpers and away jumpers. The shorts are considered secondary. What they need to do is this:

1. Home team nominates preferred home jumper. In this case, Geelong's main white with blue hoops.

2. Away team then pulls up a list of jumpers they could wear. In this case, Collingwood has either their Black with White stripes, or White with Black stripes. The jumper that does not clash is worn. So Collingwood wear black with white stripes

3. Shorts are then decided. Geelongs preferred jumper was mainly white so they wear white shorts. Collingwood wear black shorts.

There is no clash or confusion with the above.

If Geelong want to wear blue shorts then they should wear their inverse.

disagree
Home kit is full kit

If people are so keen on the home team wearing dark shorts and the away team wearing white, then I think it is fair to suggest Collingwood should wear another 'third' kit against Geelong.
If people are so keen on the creating the most aethetically pleasing match-up, then I think it is fair to suggest Collingwood should wear a full black kit.

This issue isn't really as simple as most make it out to be. It really just depends on whether you prefer aesthetics or tradition.

If Geelong want to insist on navy shorts with their white top, then Collingwood, by virtue of their colours, can't counter/contrast it. Just the reality.

AFL should step in and ask Geelong to pick one way - all white or all navy - then Collingwood do the contrasting option.

Given Collingwood have confirmed all black, then Geelong should, in theory, go with white jumper white shorts

We need to start to treat kits as a complete item.

Eg. Richmond's yellow jumper needs yellow shorts, always, as it is the yellow version of the home.
White shorts are completely unnecessary

100% this, we need to move in the direction of it all being the one main colour (main jumper and shorts) this home jumper home shorts needs to be done away with.

Essendon red clash/red shorts
Gold Coast blue clash/blue shorts

If we're going with tradition then I want this, because it's the only time the shorts colour will actually make a difference to the matchup.

If Collingwood were to revert to this, are you happy for Geelong to wear a kit in non club colours when playing away to them?

collingwood can wear whatever they like that doesn’t clash with Geelong home kit

Geelong away doesn’t clash but if they had to so be it
Either no clash or proper clash strips

what don’t you understand?
He was asking if the Pies home was white with black shorts, would you also demand the Cats wear a completely different coloured clash?
Navy with white shorts doesn't suffice, or would navy and navy shorts in your mind

didn't someone come on here and imply the Pies'd be using a swooping magpie design next season?

impossible to get them mocked up in time these days, but bit of a shame it didn't work out. could have been a good seller for Christmas too.

The club brought it back for some merch this year, but it's overpriced for what you get. I do prefer the non-sponsored, minimalist look when done right, but who is really gonna pay $75 for some crummy Playcorp hoodie (or $140 for the puffer?!?)

Dude. The AFL doesn't have full kits otherwise shorts wouldn't be mixed and matched half the season.

They have a home and away policy when it comes to Jumpers.

There in lies the problem
Geelong have alternative Shorts and Socks in it’s home kit

we are back where we started.. lol
Collingwood does not have a suitable clash for Cats home strip
But the black jumper and black shorts is literally a suitable clash for the Cats home kit.

Railroading one team into white shorts (or the away team is it is usually) is what is causing this issue.

No we're not. They don't need one as the Cats can wear white shorts with their home jumper. White shorts as you stated before are a part of their home strip. Collingwood clash jumper doesn't fix it, correct, therefore they are allowed to wear their home jumper with black shorts.

But guess what?

If Collingwood still had their white jumper with black shorts as their home kit - AND the situations were reversed eg it's Collingwood's home game - guess what? Geelong are the ones who are in the deep end because they don't have a clash jumper full stop. So how is that fair?

Both teams could wear dark shorts without much fuss

But I've long been saying shorts should match the majority of the jumper.
Geelong in navy shorts and Hawthorn in brown shorts makes as much sense as the Eagles in gold shorts or the Dogs in red shorts.

Take history out of it and mismatching home shorts causes more issues than it solves, make 'coloured kits' like Freo have and we have no issue.
So yeah, Geelong only wear white shorts and Collingwood only wear black shorts regardless.
