Would easily walk into Essendon’s starting midfield. Can see why they’re asking the question

Essendon need size, running power and durability. All strengths of McGuinness

Having Durham, McGuinness and Tsatas as your 3 bigger mids + any two of the smaller mids would be a significant improvement over last year in terms of ability to absorb physical pressure (assuming Tsatas has an AFL ready body after another Pre Season)

Can also see why hawthorn might be open to trading him. Seems a good B level player and hawks have a lot of similar players as they’ve been targeting these types of mids for quite some time.

He would be an okay pickup simply for his running power.

Does create a logjam however so I wonder if Hobbs/Tsatas are out?

Think he would be used more on the wing then inside due to his running?

Seems like a good player but i do agree that if its for an inside role theres a bit of a logjam there currently

Can’t see his ball use ever being good enough to make it on a wing at AFL level

Appreciate the honesty

Not trying to say his a bad player or anything but i wouldnt really be sure why we are looking at him then as we are struggling to give Hobbs and Tsatas time in the midfield already feels like we would be creating a bigger log jam if we do nab him

Yeah it’s unfortunate, his weakness kind of make it hard for him to show off his strengths. I’d love to see him make it as a best 22 player but until he can get his foot skills to another level it’s hard to see what that role looks like for him.

Nash likely has his preferred spot in our team. Big, runs hard both ways, does all the dirty work. Although Nash isn't one of the star mids of the comp he is probably one of close to the best at that particular role.

Don't know if every team runs with them but I believe you need one to do that role, Port have Drew, Sydney brought in Jordan to do it, Richmond used Graham for years in that spot.

I think if Setterfield goes then i think there would be a role but theres been reports that he is re-signing so i am not sure

You really need 3 bigger mids at any given time so having depth there isn’t bad.

Setterfield, Durham, Tsatas and Perkins* isn’t close to enough depth of mids with size.

It’s also worth noting that Essendon has liked using a HF tagger to lock in on the oppos main rebounding defender was Guelfi last year, Caldwell the year before so there might be some opportunity for extra minutes there to have 2 players share that role

*Perkins seemed more of a HF then real mid

No reason why you couldn’t fit all of Tsatas/Setters/Durham in the side with McGuinness in the Guelfi role.

Happy to have him but i really want to see Hobbs and Tsatas get some time on ball

I know lots of people have written off Tsatas but his an inside player we have tried to play on a wing in the AFL level and yet to see him play inside at the level

dont get me wrong though i do like Finn and i think he has some really good strengths and do think he would bring value to any AFL team he went to if he left the hawks

Only reason Tsatas wasn’t playing last year was physical. Another preseason and an AFL ready body will have him locked into the midfield. Was racking it up in the VFL and with a bit more durability should do the same at AFL level.

With Hobbs (and the other smaller mids) it’s harder because you can only afford so many small mids at any given time and you have 3 former AA mids + Caldwell fighting for those 2 spots.

Be interesting to see how they untangle that.

Tsatas is a horrendous kick.

Think he would be a good get to replace Setterfield who while a good a footballer seems to get injured every time he plays AFL.

That being said we'd have to be very high on him to offer a second for him. Perhaps something with points for Kako is how this gets done

If Essendon wanted a hard running wingman with skill and a defensive edge they should have just kept Massimo LOL.

As for the idea that he's just a tagger, that is simply incorrect. He hasn't tagged anybody since maybe May?

Dominated in the VFL as a centre square goal kicking mid. Played as a high half forward/wing for us in the finals and did quite well.

Big bodied, hard running mid. Lacks skill but has plenty of grunt and determination.
I hope we keep him but wouldn't begrudge him if he takes a better offer elsewhere.

Essendon does seem like a weird choice but I'd think if they are interested it's because they believe he will unlock one of those guys to be more attacking. You'd know more than me if you thought they were capable of that step.

I'd think he'd fit in at Sydney oddly enough if I was picking a club for him to leave for.

You're a good judge. We are looking to pinch another under used 3rd generation father son off you. Last one went alright.

If it means we win another 4 premierships including a 3 peat it will be good business by us.

Maginness is contracted unlike Kennedy, this one will not come as cheaply! I think Finn stays a Hawk premiership player though for life. 😊

Not sure how he will fit in to the Sydney team
After yesterday there’s a spot. He’s a competitor, strong and huge tank. Played well in finals. Does the hard stuff and self-less roles which would free up Sydney’s outside types. Has rounded out his game and is more than a tagger.

Hawks would clearly like to keep him.
