First Coach to get the arse?

I agreed with everything you said bar this statement Malcom Blight will always be the best until a coach at the AFC delivers 3 premiership wins!

Although Adelaide's not my favourite club, as a Geelong supporter I've got to admit part of me was happy that Blighty finally bagged a few premierships. He was a good coach and bloody deserved at least one (even if it was at the wrong team!)

If Tiger Wallet lasts past round 12 i will be surprised! as i expect richmond to be in bottom 3 all year! that would ensure tigers reign ceased come start of the new financial year!!

Seriously, buy it. Use it.

For what it is worth, I think Wallace and Eade are the two under the pump, and I think the first 9 weeks will decide their fate.

EASILY Wallace...

And I'll actually go one step further here... There are enough influential cashed up Tigers supporters out there to seriously push for the "messiah's" return...Kevin Sheedy... I'm gonna go put money on this... Sheedy will be Richmond's new coach by round 20 this year. Nothing surer.

Fact is that no matter how good Wallet is, his list is woeful. A backline that consists of Polak, a forward line that relies on a 34 year old and a broken leg... a midfield that show promise but is yet to deliver a matchwinner in the Kerr, Ablett, Judd mould...or anything even close to be honest. A ruck division that is clinging to the hope of Troy "i have had 1 great year in 10" Simmonds...

This is EASILY the crapppest list in the AFL and they will get flogged. When they do, and are sitting at 15 and 3 by round 18 (that's 15 losses by the way) Wallet will walk to a media job and Sheed's will come home as the saviour.

Add to that Clarkson. If Hawthorn underperform after such promising signs the pressure will well and truly be on. Likely to survive the season, but the club can afford to pay him out.

I seem to remember there was some reluctance to resign Clarkson for his second term, so that might make him the easiest to dislodge, but the Hawks would have to implode on the field first I would think.

Depends on how hungry Kev is for the job. He might quite enjoy a weekend of footy without having to work!

As for Wallace, he has the backing of Miller and the Tigers board so he's ok (safe) to see out his contract which ends in '09. This however doesnt make him exempt from producing results.

Isn't it common practice for the Board of a Club to to say "they are fully backing the coach". . .. . Next day he gets the sack!

Okay blokes and chicks (carlton supporters) haha, who do you think is going to be the first coach to be given his marching orders this year if any?

My thoughts?

Mathew Knights 6 -1
Terry Wallace 8-1
Brett Ratten 8-1
Dean Bailey 8-1

Smokies

Rodney Eade
Dean Laidley
Ross Lyon

Thoughts?

I seriously doubt that Knights, Bailey or Ratten would get the sack in their first year.

If the dogs have another bad year Eade would be under alot of pressure. I think if Adelaide continue to make the finals Niel Craig will be fine. I'd say Ross Lyon would have the same deal as Eade. Make or break year. If Richmond make any sort of improvement i think Wallace will keep his job.

Do you actually believe the rubbish you write?

PS Bay 13 is that way ------>

Hudson left for $money$ ... nothing to do with Craig. Mattner also ... got a better offer from Roos. It will be interesting to see how that turns out. So far, from a Crows fan perspective, Symes does everything that Mattner used to do, but Symes does it without the stuff-ups. Welsh ... can you name any fading player who isn't really performing and who is under scrutiny by his club for his lack of performance ... who is at the same time happy with his coach?
Ok I got that wrong I guess, I thought a couple of players left because of the coach.

Whatever Trevor. You do realise don't you that the winning record of "the other 15 teams" against Craig is just 36%?
Which has resulted in how many premierships? Once again W-L records mean **** all if you have a team that is good enough to win a premiership but can't take the opportunity (as a Geelong supporter I can tell you this from experience). Craig had his chance to lead the Crows to a premiership and the chance has now passed. I'm not sure how good he will be at rebuilding the list, but I doubt that he is a coach that can lead you to a premiership, you were the best team in 2005-06, even with the injuries you still should have at least got to a GF.

I don't think he will be the first to go this season, I just think he is under the pump. But thats just my opinion.

Just wondering, does anyone think any other coach would have done a whole lot better given the list Wallace was left with, are people seriously blaming Wallace's coaching for us being the wooden spooners of '07? The board realises Wallace has had to turn over a list full of duds and start again. If Wallace goes and a new coach comes in he'll have our team at the strongest point it's been in many years, we'll start making the finals and that coach will be hailed as a genius... We want Wallace around when we've got a decent list to work with, that he's overseen the development of.

IMO, the first 22 right now is a lot better than it was in 05/06. In 07 the side had problems, no question.

The question in '08 is on the ruck ... not in terms of talent or potential, but rather lack of experience. It might be alright though.

The back six is rock solid ... best in the comp. The midfield is already "rebuilt", and looking pretty good. The forward line ... if it gets supply it will be just fine.

Gameplan is way better. Confidence should be OK. The draw is OK.

Put it this way ... IMO there is a better chance of premierships in '08 and especially '09 than the was in '97 and '98.

Wallace or Rocket Eade are seriously under the pump. Richmond would have to improve markedly for wallace to keep his job. Dogs need to make the 8 or Rocket's in the poo.First year coaches dont get the arse unless they're Rohdesque

In 05 we blew our chance losing to the Saints at home in the QF. But simply 06 was bad luck. In the last few weeks pre finals

Roo... parvovirus, doesnt play again that year
McLeod surgery, infected foot, misses 5 weeks plays very underdone in Prelim
Burton tears hamstring tendon, misses 8 weeks plays very underdone in Prelim
Hentschel terrible knee injury misses year (all v high quality players, 2 champions)
Biglands does knee late in second quarter of prelim, never plays again, Cox runs over the top of tiring Clarke in second half

Welsh/Bock had barely played that year, come back in finals very underdone, had to play

We lead West Coast in Prelim by 3-4 goals at half time, but they were at full strength (Cousins covered superhuman amount of ground, I wonder why?)and ran over the top of us, we lose by 10 points

To win a flag you need a top team and luck. Geelong had very few injuries in 07. Almost always the premiership team has few injuries. You cant mark a coach down for bad luck, in 06 that was a big factor in us not winning the flag. Craig is a top coach

As many have said Wallace and Eade are under the pump. After that maybe Craig or perhaps Roos but only if their clubs did really, really badly (like bottom 2 or 3). Malthouse you would have to think could go but again only if things were diabolical as they seem to have time for him.

Whats the name of that Supertramp song ?

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The Crows didn't really quite have the team or the gameplan in '97 or '98 to win a flag, but everything went right for them. Libba's point, North kicking inaccurately ... it just all went the right way.

In '05 and '06 they were in a better position and certainly better form, but they did have some vulnerable spots (especially forward) and everything went wrong. No luck at all those years.

'01 through '03 ... didn't have the right gameplan, and in addition had no luck. '07 was worse even than '97 and '98.

In '08 ... a bit of youth injected into the side (a la '97) and a decent gameplan (a la '06) ... they still need the luck but they could indeed still be in a better position than they have been before.

Why oh why won't people LISTEN.

AFC has always been reluctant to dismiss coaches.

Cornes was under pressure from the Crows followers a full year before Adelaide eventually decided not to renew his contract. Fans were pelting Shaw's car with eggs but AFC still kept Shaw on for the full term of his contract ... and they would have done that with the unpopular Ayres too, had Ayres not walked out. Blight also walked out on Adelaide even though he was still the messiah in the eyes of fans, who were more than willing to have Blight stay on.

Craig is easily in a far, far better position than any of these. Adelaide's win/loss record under Craig is significantly better than it has been under any other coach. Craig has got the side playing finals each year. Craig is willing to stay, and the club, and the fans, want him to. He has the loyalty of his players, and it seems he has got them keen and well-drilled and in very good shape to begin the year.

Once again, with feeling, so that others might finally have a chance to hear - THERE IS NO WAY THAT CRAIG WILL GET THE SACK.

Even if someone offers you huuuuuuuuuuuge odds, don't take this bet ... you will be wasting your money.

Are we finally hearing this message yet, people?

BTW: You are all welcome to try to spot the "Sack the coach" thread on here: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15

Hint: there isn't such a thread, or even the hint of one.
I agree, Neil Craig to get the arse.

In no particular order:
Matthew Knights - The first year coach will struggle to live up to the expectations of the Bombers
Mark Williams - Port Adelaide's flashy but soft gameplan will have been worked out by opposition clubs resulting in a record number of thrashings rivalling that of their Grand Final achievement
Terry Wallace - There's only so much spin that the public can consume before throwing up
