How is your Zsa Zsa?

Zsa Zsa is doing just fine. She's enjoyed sitting at the front door and looking out through the screen door in the sun on these warmish days. Of course, when anyone in the village walks by, she scrams to the bedroom. Today the Amazon courier snuck up on her. Never seen here run so fast.

It looks like I'll be in hospital later in the week, though I'm not sure for how long. This will be the first time I've been away for more than a night since I moved here. When I was in hospital/rehab for a month three years ago, it took her just a few hours to get used to me being around. She didn't leave my sight for a few days, then went back to basically ignoring me, which is the usual.

I am not a person who needs such material things. My 32 inch TV was given to me by the grandson who lived in the bungalow owned by his grandmother that I took over for four years. It serves its purpose. I'd be afraid to see Alf Stewart's face on anything larger. What I would like is a new MacBook Air since mine is nine years old. However, I am not Elon Musk. I hope to outlive it.

Got a new job recently, just working at the school in grounds and maintenance. Or just a gardener really haha.

It's pretty brain-dead work but strangely I kind of enjoy it really. 95% of the time it's just total freedom do what you think needs doing on your own without anyone telling you what to to do.. Also the senior gardener that's been there for years is a brilliant bloke that I get along with really really easily as well. Only downside is always being out in the sun and the heat. And don't get all the holidays the other staff get.

Sometimes I think it's a bit of a waste and I should really be an eduction assistant at least but then if you like what you are doing who cares. Money is ordinary of course but not actually that bad given how laid back it is and I'm financially pretty sound anyway so don't need big wages.

Where were you Kram when I needed my back courtyard weeded and cleaned up this week? Some of the weeds were a metre tall! It's small (3.5m x 4m)and mostly cement and artificial grass. I rarely go out there since it's a bit unlevelled and not safe for my walker. I gave up on plants when I left the states.


My AgedCare Package paid for it - $88. No one from my helper network wanted to do it, so my agency got Jim's Mowing to do it. They also sprayed weed killer so I won't have to have it done again for a while. Only took them about 20 minutes.

That's the great benefit of the AgedCare Package. My transport to hospital on Monday with a helper cost over $320. I've had three trips into the city in the past month to see specialists. Unfortunately my retirement village is 40 km from the city. I'll be going in again later in the week for an angioplasty and stent put in. I'll probably have to stay overnight. The cardiologist will put the probe in my wrist rather than my groin because of my mobility problems. This will be the 8th hospital I've been in since my return over seven years ago. At least I get to go past Richmond's Punt Road Oval. I always give it the finger as we drive past.

I'm currently watching Saturday Night Fever on SBS. I can't believe it's been almost 50 years since I saw it at the cinema. I was 25 when it came out. I have the soundtrack LP in my record collection.

Gardening can be relaxing and you can spend hours outside without realising. I really hate weeding though!

The last few days I've been in the garden planting seedlings I have grown from seeds. I've been successful in the past with Rocket, Basil, Sage, Silverbeet, Sunflowers and some other flowers. I haven't been successful with beetroot but I'm giving it one last try. I'm trying to grow Parsley and Spinach for the first time.
