I wonder whether we will try and get Mabil back to Adelaide would provide us with some more pace and creativity in midfield

Kamau released by Glory. Hasn’t he fallen a long way. He was a pivotal player in our premiership win and season.

Bruce got some bad advice way back, his management blew smoke up him and he believed his own hype

Agreed but also it was about $ at the time. Melb City like to splash the cash.
Taras Gomulka also was an example of a rising star, but he left for $ and has only been a bit player since. A few others as well. In fairness AU has had some tight arse owners that didn't appear to look after juniors.

We've got so many, you'll never keep them all.

The ones who have left for other A League clubs generally haven't made it, Goodwin and McGree aside, but they always came back.

Whilst we do have tight arse owners, we do pay the full salary cap. Our problem is having to pay average imports more money to come to Adelaide.

No real argument here. One other issue was we seem to have offered minimal length, low-cost contracts at the time.
Transfer fees are not required in the AL between clubs and some left and have subsequently made money for their new clubs on overseas transfers. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos and Kusini Yengi for example.
The new owner are smarter in that they are looking at maximizing overseas transfer.
