goggles: we spoke brownlow night

LB: no we didn't.

Good viewing, I'm not much of a fan of Barrett but LB seems very disrespectful of media types or outsiders in general.
You did speak to Barrett Brownlow night LB, LB seems to rate himself a bit.
Don't talk to me, talk to my manager, he seems to believe he is overly important. I'm not a fan of those types of people which LB has displayed himself to be and then the way he defended essendon players and believed they should get a top up.
Bev doesn't get it either.

To be fair he wasn't saying to speak with his manager. He was saying that Barrett should go through the media manager at the dogs. I don't think that is so inappropriate. If I was a coach, I would see little upside in speaking to a journalist if it were not compulsory to do so

So - do you think they spoke on Brownlow night or not?

I think it was probably more a case of Barrett pestering or talking at him for a story which Beveridge wasn't interested in and told him to speak to his media manager instead, Beveridge would have given him a bit of a spray so according to LB he wouldn't count that as them having a talk.
IMO I doubt Bev liked how the Talia thing played out and is a bit embarrassed to talk about his handling of it, so he didn't want a bar of that discussion.

Hope that makes sense.

I watched for first time last night.

First and last.

Ad break every 4 minutes is just ridiculous. Without Garry it's just Barrett, Hutchy and Caro trying to talk over each other.

Absolute crap.

''But I rang you'' '' mate I don't ring journos back go through ...... and do it properly''

Flog LB flog

Not at all, that's what Club media managers are for, would assume it's pretty standard stuff that if you want to talk to someone you go through them first

I know what you mean and you can do that but decent people don't act like LB. Most of the coaches respond personally or without the I am mightier than thou approach.

What he said

If you wish to speak to a player I agree go through the club. But most coaches give journos their numbers . I mean how else did DB ring LB? If LB wants journos to go through the club then get a new phone and don't give your number to journos. Simple

Few times you could see LB when a question was being asked with the "F*** here we go" face.

I can see from both sides. LB at home with the family and not wanting to be disturbed and saying if DB wants to speak with him than go trough the proper channels and arrange it. Agree with other posters LB has come off a bit of a flog towards the media. God help him when the Dogs drop down the ladder.

But then DB does have a job to do and at times journo's require speaking to people first hand to gather a comment and as he said he wanted both sides. Seems as though he was doing his research.

First time I've watched this show in years (after moving down from the northern states where it wasn't available).

Holy shit, it makes me realise how spoiled we are with the intelligent footy discussion and analysis we get on Fox Footy.

Last night's episode was as good an example as you'll see of this awful tendency for sports journalists, and particularly football journalists to want to make themselves the story. Rather than attracting viewers with intelligent analysis, they're taking the much cheaper route of using faux controversy to try and attract viewers. Last night they've got a coach on who is overseeing the most exciting team in the league at the moment - and they spend most of the interview talking about an argument that Beveridge and Barrett had while taking a piss at the Brownlow.

Who gives a shit?

And how is Craig Hutchison hosting a television show? Watching him ask questions about Melbourne before shouting over anyone who tried to answer the question was some of the shittest television I've ever seen. And I'm not talking "shittest footy television" or "shittest sport television" - this was You're Back in the Room levels of gratuitous bullshit.

I might have to give Ch7's Monday night show a go next week, cos I won't be watching this garbage again.

Is it worse without Lyon? I can't imagine this show is still on tv after 10 years or so if this is stock-standard.

I believe it is. As a footy person Garry only had to contend with Caro v Hutchy. He could control that and Hutchy used to whimper and roll over to get his belly scratched by Garry. Caro stood her ground but knew when to be quiet ( apart from her whispered aside) . Its why you see Lloydy sit there now and not say much. Egos in the room.

Interview is totally obvious and lame attempts to get person to say something controversial, whether lyons is there or not. in the process, they miss any value in the interview whatsoever. I'm surprised people still go on.

In contrast, Jack Reiwoldt is much better on 360, asked if he staged, he laughed and said lots of times. Said he once staged a push in the back and then realized (hooker?) wasn't even behind him, but in front of him

Fat Hutch is off the leash without Lyon.

Painful to watch.

I haven't watched the last ep but so far? For any and all of his faults, Garry added a humorous element that's [sadly?] lacking.

you make a good point about the media's reaction if they go backwards. they will be waiting for him.
