Hutchison seems to purely view everything about football from an "industry" perspective.

He appears to be completely detached from the supporter base, much like Wilson.
Agree about Hutchy, he definitely looks at everything through a commercial lense with little if any thought of what the average punter would think.

I'm not sure the same can be said about Caro. She is generally a traditionalist and opposed to Hutchy on these things, e.g. this episode arguing Melbourne should do away with the NT games.

tbh I actually think this is one of the show's strengths, that they have the likes of them prepare to be provocative in their ideas and suggestions on occasion.

Sure, their opinions can be irritating and obnoxious, but I'll take that any day of the week over a yawnfest like Talking Footy which seems like AFL PR product.

With Talking Footy, you also have to put up with that prat McClure.

Wilson and Hutchinson make Footy Classified worth watching.

Otherwise, it would be another ex-players boys club, taking the higher ground on everything and turns at stroking each other's ego.

'Worth watching' and old mate 'Hutchy' in the same sentence.

Never thought I'd see the day.

Watched for the first time probably a couple of years tonight. Lol'd hard when Caro started whinging about the fixture. Surely that hobby horse was ridden into the ground long ago?!

Richmond seem to get sent there all the time so call was warranted.

A few AFL execs playing their grand finals it seems!

It comes as no surprise both these are the only ones who consistently raise challenging talking points whether you agree with them or not they spark interest.

I was watching old Footy Show eps and what made the show funny back in the day wasn't Sam being a dinosaur with politically incorrect statements, it was back then the players used to join in on the fun and were free to speak their mind, they're all media trained to an inch of their lives these days

Hutchy basically just implied there should be a different set of rules for Dangerfield/potential Brownlow winner compared to players like Koby Stevens.

He thinks about football purely in terms of maximising "good news" and ratings.

He is completely out of touch with the man in the street.

I agree, regarding the players having a greater, 'looser' input in the past. I've watched very little of the footy show for over a decade. Sam Newman's role in the success of the show was grossly over rated. As he has got older & grumpier, he has contributed significantly to it being the unwatchable flop it is now.

As for Footy Classified, I don't watch it much, mainly because I can only handle Hutchy and Gary Lyon in small doses.

Glad somebody in the Vic media (Hutchison) finally called out Eade on how self-serving he'd been post-sacking and absolved himself of any blame for his failed tenure; of course the Vic media have let Eade indulge in this because it serves their 'what a lost cause the Gold Coast is' narrative.

Caro taking a shot at Hardwick with her arrow....Sorry Caro, but your arrow couldn't have been less well aimed if you tried.

Hardwick was bang-on about the umpires down at the Cattery this year....Port got murdered down there, Freo were absolutely fleeced in the second half & the Tigers got hammered.....And if it weren't for advantageous totals against G.W.S & the Hawks, then they'd have 14 less points this year & be scratching for a place in the finals....Not to mention the fact that Selwood continually wins the free-kick stats year after year.

How on earth the media have missed out on the 'Free kick Geelong' fiasco this year is truly beyond me....Particularly after the hammering the Hawks copped last year.

Gotta love Carro... goes on about how great it was for Melbourne to attract a crowd of 52K to the game but failed to mention they had given away 20K free tickets An then to try and back up her argument that the Geelong v Richmond game shouldn't have been at Simonds said that even people at Geelong privately admitted it was a pity the game had been scheduled at Simonds. Please....

I'll add the Dogs to that list of clubs that have copped a belting over supposed favouritism with free kicks.

Mate, jealousy is a curse. We had the wrath of whinging Longmire who refused to concede his team choked in a Grand Final and went on the blame the umpires,

We aren't we hearing about free kick counts at Geelong, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide?

I'm not one who thinks free kick counts need to be equal but with regard to the "advantageous totals" against GWS and the Hawks - GWS led free kicks 20-14 and in the two Hawthorn games this year it was Hawthorn leading Geelong 26-24 & Geelong leading Hawthorn 25-21. So I'm not sure how out of those 3 games where apparently Geelong had an advantageous free kick count yet lost it in 2 of the 3 games and received a total of 4 less free kicks really stands up.

Therefore based on your logic that Geelong should have 14 less points, if it's ok with you can they get back the 2 points you deducted against GWS and considering GWS won that count Geelong should really get their 2 points as well and whilst we're at it, three of the games Geelong lost this year they also lost the free kick count significantly so on that basis they should be give another 12 points.... So therefore Geelong should actually have an additional 2 points than they have now and be clearly in 2nd position.... It's fun playing these type of hypothetical games...

Hutchy made some interesting points on his podcast about Eade using his friends in the media very shrewdly over the years. He reckons this resulted in the favourable treatment he got recently. It starts about 6 minutes into this

You know Caro’s lost an argument when she has to fall back on her patented “privately people have told me differently…” defence.

Nah, the AFL review admitted the umpiring was shithouse in that grand final, and Adelaide counts for squat. The umps went in to AO with a intention to not let the new stadium and crowd influence them. Port very rarely win a free kick count there. We only managed to beat St Kilda cause they chose not to pay an incredibly obvious free against them.

Yeah Caro's Arrow was rubbish last night, she should've pointed it at the umpires who get swayed by home town crowds rather than umpiring fairly.

With good reason, you've had the biggest free kick differential by far over the last couple of years when you haven't even been a top 4 team.
