Re: footy show review

The Bulldog Talent night was heaps better, our boys have lots of hidden talents!! too good for the footy show!!

Once upon a time it was just players heaps better, they should get the oldies out again and ditch the dancers, its funniers when they're really unco and unrehersed!!

Re: footy show review

...I also though Ablett probably should have won ahead of him (happy ...

The Brownlow is awarded by umpires to the player adjudged to be the fairest and best - note the word order. It isn't for the "best" as adjudged by sports writers, TV commentators, radio announcers or a popularity poll amoung supporters. Cooney dominated in a sufficient number of games to pick up his votes - Ablett didn't. Cooney plays the ball, doesn't back chat umpires or initiate agression. No wonder the umpires notice him. They are looking for different qualities than the media types who have as much an eye to circulation and their audience/readership as to quality. Does Ablett maintain the same standards ? Ask Giansiracusa about initiation of aggression, ask the umpires about dissent.

There are plenty of "best" awards chosen by media personnel around, there is only one "fairest and best" award chosen by umpires. Cooney is as worthy a winner as any I've ever known about. He's more Bobby Skilton than Dipper. If Cooney had won the Age, Sun, Coaches choice, Channel 7 etc awards over Ablett, you might raise an eyebrow but not the Brownlow.

Who ended up wining that??

The Footy Show is now a load of crap. I hope it gets the axe. It's now all about confrontation, between Newman and Hutchison, Newman/Lyon/Brayshaw and Dunstall and is full of unfunny attempts at humour [i.e the constant Chief references, the stretcher and Marmalade].

As for Coons, I'm fed up with the complete and utter disrespect he has been shown by some sections of the media and the general public this week.

He won the Brownlow, and Ablett didn't - get over it.

Having said that, I hope the Cats give the Hawks a spanking today.

I stand corrected (and happy about it, too). Thanks for the free lesson, D Mitchell. :thumbsu:

I think Murph won, with a couple of others, sang rocket man, really funny, was meant to be posted on youtube, but hasn't been yet.

Does anyone know what Sam Newman meant when he was having a go at Aker for doing something else at their rival channel the night before

i think it meant he did something on channel 7 but i looked at the guide and it showed nothing footy related

Aker was on the panel for a special about the 2008 football season in review (can't remember its exact name but it aired at 9:30pm). It was hosted by that Hamish guy and the same panelists that are on Channel 7's Game Day program.
