Footyology with Connolly & Finey

Saw it the other day by accident. I thought it was amazing. I like them both -- they are astute observers -- but what I really love is the cheap production values. The two tatty old grey plastic couches, the two folded newspapers on the crappy old table, and the framing which emphasises their fat guts. I also love the fact that Rohan sends one of the junior Age journos out for a pack of Winnie Blues. He was busting for a durrie right through the segments, and was not ashamed to say so.

Just before I switched off, they had a segment where Finey is driving around Melbourne one handed (never ever two-handed) interviewing a has-been (forgot his name) while Rohan and his missus sit in the back seat like shags on a rock. "Stars in the Car", is that what it's called? Brilliant concept. I thought they were going to get out at some point and do something, but no, they just drive around. Pretty bloody funny. Genius, actually.

In a just world, Robbo would be the star of this show while Finey and Connolly rake in the bucks on the major channels. But Robbo is so low-rent that he wouldn't survive in an environment where the sets are even more shabby than he is. Plus if he drove around while talking at the same time he'd stack his Camira into the Yarra. Which would be a relief.

Watch it, people. Aussie TV at its weirdest and most legendary.

I heard that Rohan and Rita Panahi were a couple?

Yep its truly great - is that Les Fong in your avatar - if so bravo Sir bravo!

Fox should pick it up Wayne's World style but keep the cheapo production values. How RoCo has not got the gig over Jake Niall - who is boring as bat shit has got me stuffed

EDIT: actually I do know why RoCo is not on Fox - he ****ing hates Murdoch and his empire - more power to him!!!

It is Les Fong and you're right, Rohan fights the good fight. Can't imagine, as someone has suggested, that he would be diddling Rita Pahani of all people.

I hope Rohan reads this thread and takes heart. I've been an admirer since he had the courage to don a Pies jumper before the 2010 GF. No fat shaming for Ro.

Les was a fantastic player for the Garlic munchers (he played for Souths too didn't he?) - I used to admire him from the outer at Basso. Unfortunately RoCo did have a relationship with Rita. it must have ended badly because he trolls her on twitter all the time for her stupid op pieces in the Herald Sun

Was Les at the Bulldogs? Huh, always thought he was a Cardie through and through. Used to live on Vincent Street and watch him at Leederville every other Saturday.

You've really shocked me about the Rita connection. Woman is a complete shill. No wonder he's so active on Twitter.

I was told she is an ex wife of his... not sure the level of truth in it but he doesn't seem a fan of hers at all

Content isn't bad but I can't stand when shows try to look like they have money for good production when they clearly don't.

Rather than trying to look like a professional TV show, go sit in a park or a pub and forget about the dodgy set.

Wow, I never knew that. Sounds like both of them were keen to keep that quiet. Quite an odd couple, when you think about it. Don't appear to be on the same page in a lot of ways..... I'm not sure if either was batting above their average.

After a little bit of research via google, it appears they had a child - I wonder if they call him RiPaRoCo?

Yeah, come to think of it, she might have been batting above hers. When she speaks (& writes) Rita sounds like she'd prefer to wear the pants, be hard work & high maintenance. Be hard to cop 24/7.

That rumour has been around for years, never concretely confirmed. There is no doubt that Rohan and Rita appear to be polar opposites politically but who knows whether Rita's incarnation as a conservative commentator is completely genuine? There are many journos who have taken up the role of Right wing warrior in order to further their career at conservative institutions such as News Ltd or talk radio stations like 3AW. I know a bloke who has used to be a journo at Fairfax. Some of his old colleagues worked with Andrew Bolt when he first started out. They recken he was so far removed from the Flint dry conservative he portyays himself as nowdays that a lot of his image simply has to be contrived.

How good is the Stars in Cars segment?

I agree. Might be a rip off from Seinfeld but definitely a very good segment.

Brian Dixon singing "Stand Up and Fight" was a cracker. Did I hear it right, Dicko sang it to his wife at their wedding?
I doubt "Stand Up and Fight" could be found on any Love Songs compilation album.
