Coaching Staff Former Coach Ben "Truck" Rutten - Sacked for real this time - 21/8

Just seems we have a coach who looks pretty happy about losing. Rd1 we turned up not ready to go and all his explanation was that he "didn't see that coming".

Sounds pretty honest to me, would it be better that he did see that insipid effort coming?

The effort the past fortnight has been much improved, against two sides who are odds on favourites for the Grand Final.

I'm not too sure what people expected from the first 3 games, but aside from the Geelong game it's been about what I expected; one side who's rebuilding and will finish mid-table that can't go with a genuine Top-4 side in their prime. I imagine Rutten and co were expecting about the result we got at the end of Brisbane and Melbourne's games.

Can't wait to see what Caracella brings to the post-match presser.
Hopefully a bit of this action

Losing doesn't seem to bother Truck. Rocks up to the post game press conferences looking as fresh as a daisy (other coaches look drained) and always seems to have a silly smirk on his face before the first question. I wish I was taking 0-3 as well as the Truck seems to be :thumbsu:
we're a rebuilding bottom-8 side (we really had no business being in finals last year) who are 0-3 against teams from last year's top 4, it's about as low-pressure as 0-3 can be.
if we'd lost to north, adelaide, and GC it would be a very different situation

And missing a sizeable chunk of last year's forward line. 4-5 goal losses to the very best teams, whilst also being very competitive in those games, is nothing to panic about.

I'm speaking in relative football terms. Don't overthink my post, I'm not reaching for razor blades lol.

I think he's just confident in the direction we're heading. He's said it before... I just realised I recall that he has said this before 😕

Out of interest, and yes we have some big outs, but how much leeway do we think Truck gets?
Is he done if say we finish 16th or would it be some time in 2023?

How much more of this do we have to put up with? There has been a stench at the club, probably before sheeds was sacked, and nothing is being done about it, nothing. This was a once proud club, at the moment, we are a joke, a cleanout is needed, coach, dorodoro xavier campbell etc. Dyson Heppell, this is prob going to be his last season, not only as captain but, as a player, he really has been making too many mistakes the last few games .

Would love to know what he presented to the board to get the gig initially - or maybe it was settled with a quick game of rock-paper-scissors instead?
I like Rutten. Surely dodo goes before another coach? I do question some of the overall admin decisions. Stanton as VFL coach? Was a pretty selfish afl player particularly towards the end.

Longmuire just showed rutten how a system is meant to work. Yes we have a young side, but no one knows what’s going on out there. How many times does an opposition player pop up in 40m of space. We are so easy to play against it’s not funny. Teams get the ball 80m out from kick ins before we lay a glove on them.

I have a soft spot for him too, but what is driving our diabolical performances? Does Rutten still have to contend with some ‘sympathy’ deals made with players after the saga years and can’t bring in the culture he wants yet? P.S. we could not be further away from a blue-collar team if we tried

I think we have built a culture of sympathy deals, smith still around, hurley still on the list, heppel still captain etc. We continue to make them, if you want soft list management ess is your club. I think Hurley would have been paid out or rookie list if not for the saga.
