Late to the party, but I only just realised that some of these Fortnite skins cost, like, $30...

I have no intention of actually spending any money on this game so I've never bothered to look at the V-bucks prices. 30 bucks... for something that has no real-world value.

I wonder how many parents out there are going into credit card debt just so little Jimmy can dress like a ninja in an online game.

It has real world value if you like using it. And the way it subsidises people who want to play 100% free is a sweet result for all

Yeah, it's good that people buying skins and other customisables allows cheapskates like me to play the game for free. $20 or more just seems like a laughable amount to spend on something that really doesn't do much to enhance your experience, though. I would've expected the premium skins to be $10 maximum. But whatever, people can spend their money how they like.

yeah it's a funny one isn't it. If you don't see the value you really don't see the value.

I have a few of the premium skins so clearly I can see the value in it, but I can definitely appreciate why people wouldn't. I do think the Battle Pass is well-priced at A$15 and you get pretty sick value out of that; as you get a number of skins/emotes etc through the season; but more so you get the weekly challenges to do which are fun to do, with a grind that gives you something to work towards and is creates a nice extra engagement

I can see the point of the Battle Pass. That’s great value.

But the whole $30 for a skin thing? Nah, I’ll pass.
This sums it up for me.

It's a shame, I actually want some different skins and the occasional different emote but I'm not willing to pay the extortionate prices for them. It's fine if it's your own money and you're happy to pay that, but I imagine there'd be a lot of kids who have no concept of cost/money running up debt on their parents' cards.

Whaaa?

If parents give their kids free rein to use their credit cards then they deserve to get fleeced.

Who would possibly ever set up their account without requiring a password?

Those who aren't technically savvy. If/when I have kids, I'll be locking it down as much as I can. Not all parents would be doing the same though.

Also, Jobe Watson said the exact same thing above. Why did it surprise you when I said it and not when he did?

Tech savvy/not tech savvy...U give out out credit card details without research U don't get to whinge if shit goes haywire. And tbh, being tech savvy, or at least tech aware is just part of the parenting caper these days
Yeh, agree with this. Was thinking more of the kids who flog their parents cards without them realizing but yeh, parents do need to be more aware these days.

bored of this now, too much spammy building now.

They are lowering the material cap soon. Will mean less build battles.

I do actually enjoy build battles but imo gameplay has already been heading away from that since the shotgun nerf. Sure, they still happen in games but I'm seeing a lot more AR battles rather than nearly every battle end up in a massive build off.

Meh, they brought back double pump though. If you can't build like a devil and your shotgun play isn't a head shot first time you're pretty much dead.

I'm fine with that. Im fine without it too, just let me shoot where I aim.
First shot will go there if aimed long enough.

Sniper and scoped rifles do it when aiming too.

The only skin I bought was the jailbird one, and that was with earned v-bucks. I don't mind buying the battle pass again, cause I now have the best skin in the game and don't need to buy any more.

it's a slippery slope these things. last month i was "why would you put money into a free game?" but they can suck you in if you let them. battle pass is cheap and gives lots of rewards so you don't feel bad about paying for that (i had like 3 bucks in my PS wallet so i thought "it's only 7 bucks!" - THAT'S how they get you) then you have a bunch of v-bucks and need a bit more for this EPIC COSTUME so you buy the small v-bucks pack. you play every night and see more and more skins/emotes etc. and get sucked in by friends and being in the moment and all that crap. also world cup skins are cool.

They got two of my mates. We were chilling with default skins for a while, but they both caved and bought the Battle Pass and are now also buying the occasional skin/emote. Now I'm the only pleb running around like a default-skinned hobo. But Epic won't seduce me with their sexy outfits. Fight the power.

Tipping in $15 for the battle pass is no issue as far as I'm concerned. Play enough and you'll recoup the V-Bucks from tiering up during the season, and can then use it to buy the battle pass the following season. I like that the BP adds weekly challenges and allows you to access various skins through the season.

The only additional $ I've spent was to get the last few tiers of season 4 so I could get the 'John Wick' skin. I think that came to about $5. Otherwise, as much as I like a lot of the skins and emotes in the shop, I've never come close to buying any.
