Does he have to kick as many goals as plugger to be a better FF? I think if he makes it to 1000 it'll be enough. Plugger didn't run off half-back like a pure midfielder like buddy does.

That's cool, just explain why a 1000 goal franklin is not better than a 1300 goal lockett.

Exactly, that's why he'll be the greatest FF of all time . . . if he gets to 1000 goals and has spent a lot of time in the midfield . . . then you'd take him ahead of Dunstall . . .

No problem, it's a contentious theory i know, but i think a FF who kicks 1000 goals and can dominate the occassional quarter in the midfield would be more useful over ten years then a stay at home forward with 1300 odd.
last time i checked playing half back doesn't improve your standing as a full forward but seeing as you're spot on with everything else i'll just take your word for it.

It improves your standing as a player to be able to run around better than most if not all midfielders, and then go forward and kick 100 goals a year, yes. Maybe not strictly as a FF, but as a player. And if you were going to put one of either Lockett or Franklin at FF, i would put buddy cos i know he'll be able to do more than just sit in the square. This is assuming he gets another ten years of good footy into him though and kicks around a ton a season.
well then why don't you just say franklin will be a better player?

Cos currently Franklin is more or less a full-forward and i have to say that he should be considered at least as good as say a Dunstall if he gets anywhere near the goals Dunstall got. So now i'm thinking if he gets the ton this year and continues to get the tons, he'll automatically be better than the chief.
tony lockett had 352 goals when he was 21 at the end of 1987.
if franklin kicks 100 this year, he'll only have 225.

Fantastic. Franklin didn't kick many in his first two years, that's the only reason why he's so low, and doesn't compare well to most forwards for the start of their careers.
