Fraser McInnes (2012 -2019)

Large McInnes has been named at full forward for East Perth in round 5, after avoiding suspension in a testy, 3 hour long, tribunal hearing during the week.

The Royals forward line has been a complete mess all season. Will Fraser be up to the task?

Would you bet against this man?

Fraser finishes with 18 disposals and 22 hit outs as East Perth go down by 91 points to Subiaco.

McInnes is now sharing the ruck with Scott Jones, which means more time in the East Perth's forward line. Large Fraser would rather visit his parents than spend time in that forward line.

Large Fraser has again been named at full forward for East Perth and is likely to play against Perth's Brad McPhail.

Here's a picture of how McPhail earned his name:

And that's the guy who's going to cover the forward monster that is Large Frase.

Luckily for the Demons, they also have former Dockers defender, McFarlane, in the side. Chances are that they will need him.

Having lacked firepower in the forward line all season, the East Perth coaching staff moved their prime stud, Fraser McInnes, to the forward line on a permanent basis against Perth on the weekend and reaped the rewards as the hulking big man dominated all that came near.

Large McInnes finished with 24 disposals, 13 marks and 3 goals, and rested for most of the last quarter, having done the heavy lifting when there was lifting to be done.

West Coast fed the press the best on ground sheet and nobody was surprised to see Fraser's name on the top of the page. A mere formality.

The Eagles website again gushed while describing McInnes as "dominant in the air". The West named him best on ground and called him a focal point. Bigfooty raved. Woman offered themselves. Men reconsidered what being a man meant. Children ran in fear as the giant forward stomped around looking for a meal. Just the usual.

Here's a video of the football clinic on the weekend: http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/video/2017-04-25/mcinnes-best-afield-for-the-royals

If you don't love Fraser, go **** yourself.

The WAFL

East Perth played Peel yesterday and came out like a team that cared about the result for the second week in a row. Our humble hero started at full forward and showed only glimpses of his ability for the first 3 quarters. At first there were probably as many annoying errors as there were moments of competence. A few clear ruck knocks would be followed by a loss in a marking contest, a couple quick shots at goal would end with disappointing behinds and some slick hands in close would be succeeded by periods of absence.

Then the 4th quarter happened and Large McInnes realised the game needed to be won. He got involved by leading up the ground early, not long after he took a mark on the lead and kicked his first (and only) major and then he just kept finding the ****ing footy and making things happen. Tom Lamb got a lot of the kudos for his 4 last quarter goals but most people saw who set him up for two of those while kicking one himself - Large Fraser.

By the end of the game McInnes had 21 disposals, 4 marks and 15 hit outs. He finished with 1 goal and 3 behinds and that inaccuracy probably cost him a chance to say he played 2 monster games in a row. Not that Fraser will care - he's all about those W's... And the bitches.

The AFL and Adam Simpson

Surprising nobody courageous opportunity thief, Nathan Vardy, sustained an injured early in yesterday's match against the Dockers.

Adam Simpson, who's thus far done everything in his power to deny Fraser any opportunity, again started implying that McInnes could be left in the reserves.

Simpson, known for selecting Mitch Brown as a small forward and folding like a house of cards every time he coaches against his old mentor, did leave the window ajar for a possible McInnes call up.

Simpson, not a keen observer of history, would benefit from being told the story of how Dean Cox broke into the senior side.

He would also do well to pick an in form ruckman, when he's in need of a ruckman. Unfortunately for West Coast fans, we might just get Brophy in the ruck.

Brophy has retired.

Not dissimilar to a timeless Hollywood plot, today we find out whether our hero, Large Fraser, will get his chance in the West Coast starting team.

Along the way we'll have two massive questions answered. Firstly, will our heroine, Nathan Vardy, be too distressed to play and, secondly, will the evil Adam Simpson select our hero to make his debut for 2017?

All will be revealed in 3 hours or so.

This article suggests that Large McInnes has been promoted onto the senior list. But is a guarantee of a game or is a nefarious act by Adam Simpson?

Shifty Adam Simpson left Large McInnes out of the team on the weekend but even with all his influence over the selection committee he couldn't stop Fraser being a travelling emergency.

Embarrassingly and much to Simpsons chagrin, Vardy and Giles were soundly demolished by the Port Adelaide ruckmen. Slightly more accurate kicking by Port Adelaide would have put this selection blunder under the microscope but Simpson squeaked through like a weasel again.

Next up Simpson will suggest that McInnes' week without a game will rule him ineligible to play in round 8 as he's lacking continuity.

However, there's no reason to worry McInnes fans. The pressure is building and Large Fraser should be in the team soon.

It's been pretty low key but Adam Simpson as succumbed to the astounding pressure Fraser's form has created and begrudgingly selected McInnes for his first game of the season against the Dogs.

Large McInnes has been named in the forward pocket but he should also spend about half the game in the ruck.

His possible opponents when up forward should either be Fletcher Roberts or Macus Adams, both of whom are traditional talls and probably won't hurt Fraser the other way. There is a possibility, however, that the Dogs might try someone like Easton Wood on our hero and that could prove problematic, as Fraser hates nimble campaigners.

In the ruck, things should be a bit easier, as the Dogs are only playing Tom Boyd as a ruckman and he doesn't give a **** about hit outs. Watch for Fraser to "accidentally" forget to bring the lube for Boyd as he molests the young dog in the ruck.

My crystal ball says Large McInnes finishes with 11 disposals, 19 hit outs and 1 goal, with everyone appraising his game as "**** that was better than I expected".

Happy times.

Game Review

A bit of a late update this week but it's been a long 4 days of partying to celebrate Large Fraser's resounding success.

Indeed, the keen eyed did notice that a lot more people attended Fraser's first game party (left hand side in the picture below), compared to that of Drew Petrie (RHS).

Yes, both West Coast players had parties at The Capitol Building. What of it?

Anyway, Large McInnes backed up a lot of my shit talk (thanks Frase, you're a ripper bloke) by coming out and playing a hell of a game for the Eagles on Friday night.

The big #36 finished with 5 kicks and 6 handballs at 90.9% disposal efficiency. It's fair to say that some of his kicks made our midfielders jealous and he did record a goal assist, which most of our midfielders and forwards failed to do.

Likewise he threw his weight around and laid 5 tackles. That was enough for 3rd best for West Coast, which is a great achievement for a large man like Large McInnes. Vardy provided comment on this after the game:

“His tackling was massive and the midfielders love it. When you’ve got 100 kilos landing on your opponent, it’s going to tire them out and wear them down." - Nathan Vardy

Finally, McInnes also won 15 hit outs, which, while not outstanding, is impressive for a player who only had 64% TOG.

McInnes about to dominate Boyd in the ruck. EAD, Boyd, you overrated campaigner.

Outlook

Obviously with such outstanding stats, nobody who isn't a bitter idiot wants to see Fraser McInnes dropped.

In fact, articles like the one linked above even speculate that Fraser could be the answer to West Coast's ruck woes.

At this stage, only two things stand in the way of Fraser and world domination, Drew Petrie and his unbroken hand, and a coach who loves to play favourites.

In the not too distant future I'm sure we'll be a position where West Coast will be choosing between McInnes, the fans favourite, and Drew Petrie, the guy who has been close friends with the coach for more than a decade.

Until then, let's just enjoy the ride.

Funny stuff. Love ya work Jimmy - setting the sponsorship benchmark this year.

It was great to Large McInnes play well. He actually did pretty well in Darlings absence last year and it as good to have a reminder of his potential. Will never be a world beater but as a backup ruck/forward on relatively low pay, he is probably worth keeping, at least for the foreseeable future.

The Beautiful

Large McInnes has been named in the forward pocket to play the Bombers on Sunday. His second game of the year will see him jump 6 spots in the all time games list ahead of Lewis Stevenson, Tunbridge and Sierakowski, amongst others. Prestigious stuff.

The Bad

The bad news is that Essendon might come out with an imposing ruck duo. Bellchambers has been added to a team featuring Leuenberger and both of these guys should dominate hit outs. The best case scenario for Frase is that the Bombers only select one and that the WC ruck duo work him into the ground but that would allow Essendon another runner.

The Good

On the positive side, neither Bellchambers nor Leuenberger are very dangerous around the ground. In this measure Fraser should aim to at least break even with Leuey and beat Bellchambers.

Prediction

Unfortunately I think a bit of a second game let down might be on the cards: 11 disposals, 9 hit outs, 4 tackles, 1 goal.

Did you know?

Fraser has played in 8 wins and 2 losses. His career winning percentage is only exceeded by Sam Mitchell at WC (86%) and a some players with 3 games or less.

There's a lot to catch up here so I've made a timeline:

Saturday, May 20, 2017:
Drew Petrie returns from a 7 week lay off with a broken hand and plays for East Perth, collecting 15 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 11 hit outs and kicks the game winning behind.

Sunday, May 21, 2017:
McInnes plays against Essendon and collects 14 disposals, 4 marks, 5 hit outs and 1 tackle in 74% TOG. It seems as thought Simpson refuses to play him in the ruck. West Coast get humiliated by the bombers and the centre clearance stats are troubling. Large scale changes to the midfield are mooted.

Thursday, May 25, 2017:
West Coast makes 2 unforced changes to the midfield that lost centre clearances 18-10 - dropping tagger, Jack Redden, and 2nd ruck, Fraser McInnes. Drew Petrie's 11 hit outs in the WAFL is enough to have him selected.

Sunday, May 28, 2017:
Drew Petrie takes Fraser's spot in the team. West Coast lose the home game and centre clearances 20-9. Petrie collects 14 disposals and 9 hit outs. Coleman Medalist, Josh Kennedy, sustains a calf injury, opening up a spot in the forward line.

Wednesday, May 31, 2017:
Fraser McInnes is largely considered a favourite to replace either Kennedy or Petrie.

Yeah, I honestly think he has good reason to be pretty pissed off at the selection committee. At 23, even if there's just a 5% chance he becomes a solid, future back up, that has to be preferable to giving a 34 year old a game.

It boggles the mind really and it's not as though Petrie is playing any better than McInnes.

For the sake of the record - with Lycett slated to return to action this weekend and with no other spots available, it seems that Frase will be forced back onto the rookie list and so will be unable to be considered to replace Kennedy in the lineup.

A cruel twist of fate and possibly some poor planning as Waterman has been out of action for the entire season and could have been placed on the LTI list at any point up until last week.
