I genuinely don't know whos better and I thought this would make an entertaining thread.

Compared notable achievements
fyfe
2 brownlows, 2 leigh mathew trophies, 2 B&F, 3 all australians and causing all girls out west having expectations of guys way to high.
Dusty
1 brownlow, 2 norm smiths, 2 premierships, 1 leigh mathew thropies, 3 all australians, 1 coaches association and having a name like dusty.

Some thoughts
fyfe isn't that bad kick anymore don't get me wrong hes not good but hes definitely improved,
dusty has his hair cut for aerodynamics.
dusty always seems to take things at pace which requires an amazing judge of what our oblong ball is gonna do.
Fyfes judge of the ball in the air is unparalleled.
Dusty is i believe a forward as he doesn't have the tank to be a full time mid and thus behaves as a forward who get involved with stoppages and pushes up the ground.
Fyfe is a midfielder hes only pushes forward when he has a mismatch or needs a rest he doesn't have the burst pace to create enough separation and trouble defenders. In saying that fyfes top pace is top 5 at fremantle so hes quite quick and over the long distance hes top five at freo quite a feat considering giro, brayshaw hill brothers and langdon.

Both are very much untaggable dusty just goes forward and fyfe just shruggs it off.
Only times i can remember dusty being tagged out of it was deboar earlier this year but their is some more probably.
Fyfe got given an absolute bath by jarrod berry last year and silvagni did a fine job this year.

Whats everyones thoughts.

Martin for me for two reasons. His kicking is simply supreme. It is like watching an elite soccer player. The angles, the awareness, the changes in velocity, the weight of the kick. It is as elite as I have seen. Second reason is he can do everything else and more.

But he is prone to clangers with his kicks, gets tackled HTB more often than you think, and does seem to go missing every now and then. Steps it up in big games and when the game is on the line like only champions can.

I am not sure what area Fyfe is better in. Maybe endurance? Fyfe is still an out and out champion.

Edit: How could I forget. Fyfe is a masterful at marking the ball. As good as anyone.

Dustys kicking is underrated.

He has a few miss hits but often its sublime

Better overhead, appears harder to apply a direct tag on, more consistent across a season, team captain.

Both are quality.

I think Richmond have the luxury of playing Martin in the most damaging role possible, Fyfe still mainly has to fill the most urgent need.

Different players and not much seperating them, If roles were reversed and we had Fyfe and Dusty was at Freo I think universally Fyfe would be rated better.

I wouldnt swap Dusty for anyone.

We havnt really until recent. Only the emergence of Graham and more recently Pickett plus the continued good form of Lambert and Edwards now a proper inside mid when required has let dusty go forward... (and Ross some games)

i think dusty will be a full forward/hff in the back half of his footy life. Might win some colemans? lynch and riewoldt are both humble enough to let dusty do his thing if its the best match up - like the Brisbane Lions final

geez this is tough

Fyfe, when Freo were contending, was an absolute behemoth

Biased, but I give Dusty a slight edge as he is a better finisher in front of goal, & therefore hurts teams more

In this era, GAJ, Buddy & Dusty are in a league of there own as finishers. That feeling of hopeless inevitability for opposition supporters when they get the ball anywhere near the goals

At some point the penny will drop with dusty martin.

He has 2 norm smiths, 2 gary ayres medals. Best and fairest in a premiership team. These are the awards that matter

Healy said it well last night, he could very well be the greatest big game player of all time.

The best thing about him though is that he is an unassuming humble, team player.

Anyone else in this league at the moment just does not have the score on the board.

Fyfe beats him in overhead marking. That is all.

Fyfe over Dusty. As good as Dusty is, Fyfe is more consistent. Dusty can be a bit lazy running the other way. Fyfe is better defensively.
This. Fyfe is a better pure midfielder, Dusty is the best mid/forward in the game. Fyfe also just seems like a better person.

Bit much to say he is the 'greatest' big game player.

He is in the conversation, but there are others who have been equally as good in big games over careers - Carey, Hodge, McLeod, Voss, Buckley are the names that come to mind

Dusty is apparently the best finals player this decade according to Champion Data. Even without stats - two Norm Smiths and you can see with your eyes he's the best big game player in the comp easily. Fyfe doesn't have the finals runs on the board and I like players that are elite kicks so Dusty for me by a bit.

Heally didnt say he's the greatest, but "possibly" could be.
Being one of only four dual Norm Smith medalists at 28 years of age, in a team that looks like having another 3-4 dominant years could easily elevate him to that status.

Good chance of being the first triple Norm Smith medalist.
