You will be able to use Olympic facilities for half the 2032 season. Games are late July. In 2000 the NRL played until 19 days prior to the Opening Ceremony. You would be right for March, April, May and most of June.
Opening game at the new stadium - Lions vs Collingwood Easter Thursday with 50k plus?

The Lions’ 27 year old premiership captain W. Ashcroft kicks the opener.

It will likely open with BBL or the Ashes at then end of 2029. Plus Easter is late in 2030. About round six or seven.
Considering we will be experts in winning on the road by that point and the fixture software hasn't used the Gabba for a few years maybe we will have played the first 5-6 rounds away and that would be our first home game ... of course if we won 6-0 away and then lost our inaugural home game at the Gabba 2.0 ;)

So what would you guys actually prefer?
20k @ Showgrounds
30k - 35k @ QSAC
25k @ Metricon

I reckon Showgrounds with the old stands would be awesome. You membership might take a hit, but you could be creative and offer a choice of two six game packages (one including SUNS @ Metricon). So, 40k members going to six game each.

25K @ the RNA Showgrounds.

IIRC I have read/heard that we will be pushing for that sort of capacity at the RNA, also the negotiation re our new home is one of the top priorities for the newly appointed COO, it is time for him to show his worth.

25k at the show grounds. Would be close to 100% full memberships.

Showgrounds. It's not a difficult question to answer.

Metricon. Time for the Brisbane locals to experience the joys of Nerang

If I really want to get stabbed I know where to head in the Valley, I don't need an hour train and a shuttle bus.

The old stands are lovely but I can't imagine they'll escape redevelopment if we go ahead with the RNA.

Not likely. The whole joint is heritage listed and those awesome old stands hold 5k, saving $$$ for the expansion. Doubt there is room for 25k. That article posted on the previous page intimates 20k.

Being heritage listed doesn't make you immune to development - East Brisbane State School is heritage listed too.

A few inaccuracies/BS in this article in regards to drop in pitches. Seems like a token cash grab from cricket.

Below taken from a couple of articles.
Nothing really new in the articles apart from a link to Brisbane's Lord Mayor recent push for the RNA.
This may have a paywall so i will include some information.
Some links to the RNA proposal but that has no formal plans proposed that i have seen.
So, i won't show that below.
The RNA and Brighton Homes Arena are not owned by the Government so i think they are only outside chances to get approval.
Carrara would be the cheapest option by far but that will kill the Lions membership base.
The Government really need to make a decision very soon. The longer they delay construction work the likelihood it is not completed in time.

Under the QSAC proposal, the current 48,500 capacity would be cut by removing temporary stands at the southern end, and the installation of 19,815 repurposed seats from the Gabba over existing aluminum benches.

The Gabba’s two video screens would be moved to QSAC’s northern and southern ends, and new food and beverage options would be introduced. The capacity would include 1664 corporate box seats.

The running track would be removed, temporarily forcing athletics to the adjacent secondary stadium, and some seats on the eastern grandstand would need to be removed to accommodate the AFL field.

Even then, QSAC’s Australian Rules football configuration would be one of the narrowest in the AFL, at just 165 metres long and 115 metres wide, compared with the Gabba’s existing 156 x 138-metre dimensions. It would be most comparable to Geelong’s Kardinia Park (170 x 115 metres).

QSAC is Australia’s largest stadium without a regular professional tenant.

igures released in the same RTI application showed $94,697.46 was spent on stadium maintenance in 2021-22, up from $79,575.84 the previous financial year and $12,519.94 in 2019-20.

But the potential Lions tenancy would finally see that money put to good use,

The nearest train station, Banoon, is a 3.1-kilometre walk away.

Hate the QSAC option, would prefer the also not good option of Metricon and just go down for half a dozen games a season, although as you say it could massacre the membership numbers.

And that’s one of the main problems. Not only is it in the middle of nowhere, it’s in the middle of nowhere with no decent public transport. One line in and out and the station is a 30-40 minute walk away - great!

And in terms of the Gabba redevelopment, I’m a massive cricket tragic and love the uniqueness of the wicket, but I feel with the joint sharing of a venue, a hard centre wicket area shouldn’t be there.

It sucks because drop-in pitches are very bland, but a multi-billion dollar venue shared by multiple sports should override that.

The decision on our new temporary home will have to be made very soon so it can be remodelled for our needs, only 2 more seasons at the old Gabba, it will be here before we know it.... unless it's Metricon of course.

Bland at the MCG, where the permanent pitches were even worse. And they've particularly improved in the last few years anyway.

Certainly not bland at Optus Stadium, which has just as much pace and bounce (if not more) than the WACA.

Adelaide Oval was a batting paradise, still pretty much is (but again, if anything, is an improved wicket nowadays). So all indications are there's nothing to fear about a Gabba drop-in, traditional characteristics are replicable in identical climates.
