nobody watches local athletics that's the point, ive become an athletics fan last 3 years but who honestly is going out to watch events at qsac
If we had events worth going to I definitely would. But the lack of a venue that gets those events puts the kybosh on that.

that's the problem though there isn't going to be events, even if you could get a diamond league event its only going to be 1 which I highly doubt would ever happen even if there was a suitable venue

If the USA and France make the gold medal match, I’m sure there will be more than a few Chinese & Japanese fans willing to fly down.
If, and it's a big if, Brisbane Live was completed before 2032, I think they'd jump at the chance to have basketball finals there.

Also, I was reading this on another thread:

International athletics events now have to be held between July & September to suit countries from the Northern Hemisphere.

The only place in Australia capable of holding events at that time of year with decent weather is Queensland.

Also, when Aussie athletes are preparing to go overseas to rep in a World Champs or Comm Games (etc) they need facilities in a reasonable climate for final training camps and comps.

Interesting reading in the Review that after the stadium build in Perth AFL crowds went up by 36%, and Adelaide was up by 53%.

If you book it, they will come.

Thinking about it there was a big jump when the Gabba was redeveloped.

100% will lead to a bumper crowd. More affordable tickets and more membership options will open the doors up to a lot more fans.

For context, the two Adelaide teams moved from the 51,000 capacity Football Park to the 53,000 capacity Adelaide Oval. The fact both stadiums had a similar capacity shows actual growth as a result of a newer and better located stadium.

Whilst the two Perth teams moved from the 42,000 capacity Subiaco Oval to the 61,000 capacity Perth Stadium. This is not as good of a comparison as, Subiaco Oval was sold out to members only for about 10 years with limited fluctuation in crowds.

So in Perth there was latent demand from people missing out and the larger capacity stadium was just accomodating it. Eagles still have a wait list for reserved seat membership.

Bit of interesting tid bits just released in the Courier Mail.

International bball should be able to draw 20k+ audiences.

5k venues are ridiculous. So are 12k venues in reality.
Briztoon i am not sure what you want the government to build. The money pit is only $7.1 billion
The Authority has Brisbane Arena 15k costing at GoPrint site quoted as $2.385 billion.
Imagine the costs of a 20k stadium.

If they drop the Victoria Park oval stadium, they will be able to build one though.

I am not sure who gets to play in Cairns but likely the bottom rating teams at that time.

the whole stadium saga reminds of survivor when 2 players are lying to each other and they both know it, crisafulli said he genuinely thought there was enough time, everyone knew they had run out of time to build somewhere for lions/cricket to go and then build the stadium after that that's why it said earliest was 2033 unless they want to pay displacement compensation which would also make no sense, and a rebuild of the gabba is still a new stadium anyway

So by that, won't actually have shovels in the ground by 2nd half of 2027?
Maybe.
The Perth Optus deal allowed groundwork to start earlier than the bid winner was announced from what i read.

It is a tight timeframe and that is without any legal issues

Once they have a definitive position for the stadium, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this happen.
