Gaff - does he stay or go? Let me set the scene..

Nothing even close to reasonable was going to be enough to pry Kelly from Geelong last year. Gaff has had a bad few games for us so far this year but he was an all Australian last year and to be happy with a pick in the 20’s for him is insane.
Insane hey Gaffy? He was replaced by Sheed in the rotation on a contract probably less than half of what Gaff's expired deal would have been, and wasn't really missed. And the cap squeeze we'll be under due to his, McGovern, Barrass etc contract extensions coming on will make it hard to throw money at Coniglio this off season

You can’t force Coniglio to come over you understand right? Why the feck would you give away our all Australian midfielder for nothing and then think selling the farm for Kelly is a good deal?

Guys take it to the Gaff thread please. This is the Kangas Kelly thread.

*In before the resident emotionally fragile squeal to the mods to get this thread locked.

Not going to say who posted the above but it’s rather ironic that less than 12 hours after posting this the author started a thread demanding I be sacked as a mod for editing a post

Josh Kelly will be 4 years into retirement as a 3 time premiership one club player with the Giants and Melt_Baker will still be certain that he’s joining Norf.
Pffft, whatever mate. The bloke that just signed a ten year contract doesn't even want to be there. Just remember...

He wants to be at North, and every time someone shitcan’s him because this very technical scenario does not snugly fit the receptors of their gratification emotional response mechanism, they are making themselves look stupid.

Don't make yourself look stupid pal.

Keys I apologize if my bumping this thread brought you undue additional work, but it certainly has delivered on the entertainment front! For that, you're all very welcome.

Shame aggressively telling everyone you have insider knowledge of trades that never actually happen is not a sackable offence on big footy.

Then we wouldn't have to deal with the author abusing and deflecting when everyone calls him out on his lies.

Not at all. It brought much mirth and merriment including an unexpected “Sack a west coast mod” thread on the suggestions board which has since been deleted unfortunately

I’m also happy that our posters didn’t go button mashing at the north supporters posts. Made my job easy

Well, on a positive note, it gives us some flexibility with trading, and ensures like Judd, we get the best out the player before he goes.

That would mean we’d have to trade him this year. At the end of 2020 he becomes an unrestricted free agent according to that article so we can’t even match

So according to this Gaff is only on a 2 + 4 year contract - meaning he can leave at the end of next year if he wishes:

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...us-eight-equals-10-years-20190801-p52d24.html

That's alot different in reality from the long term deal that was reported ...

I always assumed this was the case too.

Every player's agent knows about free agency and would ensure their clients (well, the good ones at least) sign contracts that always take them only to the end of free agencey periods so they can shop around for the best deals. I don't hold any grudges against Gaff or his agent for doing this and if he leaves at the end of 2020 it is hopefully because he was a key part of a threepeat for us.

Will be turning 29 in the year he could leave, with 220 odd games under his belt. Imagine he’d have only a couple of good years left at that stage.

If club new he intended to leave would allow us flexibility with $’s for Cogs/Kelly with a backended contract

Indeed if he leaves at the end of 2020 I can honestly say we probably would of gotten his best.
