Over the last few years plenty of teams have tried desperately to claim they're one of Geelong's rivals. Richmond (lol), Bullflogs (lol), Swanettes (lol), The Wooden Bloons (lol), Collingnorf (lol) and others.
Truth is all of those 'rivalries' are a bit like Sydney's inner-suburbs - one way streets. We're always their grand final, but to us they're just another home and away game we have no respect for their piddlingly minor moments in the sun before they inevitably hit the bottom 4 for extended periods and ask for 'priority picks' and 'draft concessions' to fix their chronic mismanagement.
But there is one exception. Despite their recent shitness, the Dingley Dumpster Divers have remained staunch adversaries on the football field in what is Geelong's only TRUE rivalry (except their rivalry with AFL HQ). The ability of each club to rise to the occassion (or sink to the occassion) is something that demands a grudging respect that others might only dream of.
For your pleasure, our two teams will put on a courageous, skilled performance that will undoubtedly be match of the round and a display of true friendship and respect. As a bonus, our friends from Dingley are getting their Mykis out and catching the train down to play at our new stadium in front of the best grandstand in the land - the Joel Selwood Stand.
