The writing is really starting to stumble. Kinda like The West Wing after Aaron Sorkin left - still way more watchable than 99 percent of the rest of TV but a noticeable decline.
agree, theres definetly way more clichéd moments with quotes etc ie sansa telling jon he is a good king etc etc

lucky it has such an addictive plot

I'm still really enjoying them, to be honest. Despite a marked reduction in the level of nudity, incest, and nude incest.

Shame

I rewatched from season 3 onwards about 6 months and by the end I was a bit exhausted with it all. Then I caught Season 6 on it's own a couple of weeks ago and I though shit this is good TV. The writing doesn't bother me so much - I don't think it was ever that good TBH, but I've always seen the show as being essentially a medieval soap opera. I have noted though that ATM the moment we're seeing all these disparate characters meeting and not have as much chemistry as in the beginning when it was those enduring personal relationships that made it a little more intimate: Jaime & Tyrion, Robert & Ned, Sansa & Arya etc.

That's what I thought might happen since GRRM hasn't finished his books yet. While he guides the producers it just isn't the same. The first 3/4 seasons were amazing. Season 6 had some good moments as well but everything just seems so rushed now. The character development of any new characters since season 3/4 has been lacking as well. I just don't really care for Euron, the sand snakes, Missandei...
although I loved the portrayal of the High Sparrow and he was one of my favs.

The finale from last season was probably the best episode of TV ever produced. The show is quite different in season 7 than earlier seasons but this was inevitable once the show passed the books. Obviously it is so much harder to finish a great series as theories become answers and story arcs converge. The 'rushed' and 'limited character development' criticisms are valid but unfortunately once a series end date was put in place the show needed to get moving, there just isn't time to fluff about.

This made the "The West Wing" fan in me twitch. I'm sure some The Wire fans here are doing likewise :p

It seems like this season is showing the gap between those who thought GoT was great artistic TV, and those who thought it was always just good old fashioned fun.

I'm in the latter camp, and I'm very much enjoying this season.
