Assuming everyone is fit
who would you want to see in your first 22
Garlett or Yazza
i know there has been alot of threads of similiar nature
but just wanted to egt toher people's opinions
I would like to see both of them in, if there is room
i think gralett, yarran and betts at fev's feets could stretch Richmonds (and most teams) defence

Not sure. Clearly Yarran's more rounded and his upside is huge, but Gartlett's enthusiasm and work rate is infective.

While our talls beyond Fevola might be lacking, our small/mid forward stocks are looking mighty impressive. With Betts, Yarran, Gartlett, Houlihan and Walker all likely to spend significant time up there, it'll give us a much more dynamic forward line than we've had in years. :thumbsu:

Both need solid pre-seasons to bring them up to AFL fitness. Garlett more than Yarran. Both will eventually be in the forward line. Yarran will be there all 2009, Garlett will do cameos.

I'm sure Ratten wants to play Yarran, Garlett and Eddie together. I really reckon we should take a risk and play them all round 1 V Bleakmond. These are the sort of players who'll improve rapidly at this level. Plus they'll learn to work within our current team structure. Garlett is an amazing player to watch. he literally glides across the turf, and his decision making is lightening and instinctual, often too fast for his team-mates. He's missed a few set shots that I'm sure he's disappointed about. His kicking technique is actually excellent. Once these guys add some extra consistency to their skills, they'll cause nightmares for opposition defenders. We'll see a lot of party tricks up forward this year. :)

Yarran no doubt will be a better player, but Garlett currently shits on Yarran for defensive pressure.

Yarran's work ethic when he didn't have the ball was below what is required.

My preferred forward line is:

Robinson Cloke Walker

Houlihan Fev Betts

Yarran may sneak on the interchange.

Agree. Yarran for mine. Get games into him so he can find the requied level. Garlett can spend time with the ants and bulk up a bit, certianly no need to rush him but he's going to be a beauty.

From limited NAB cup form i voted Garlett as he looks like a real talent. I am not totally convinced on Yarran yet but it is way to early to ride anyone off and both will need regular game time and confidence in playing at the highest level.

Good luck to both kids and i think we have 2 very good ones!! Match that with Mitch( Hardnut ) Robinson and it is good times ahead for us Blues. ;)

Yarren over Gartlett, but if he and Betts dont work well together a tough decition should be made to choice between one of them. Yarren looks better as he basicly did in the geelong games what Gartlett did against North but in the North game Fev was playing which makes the smaller guys jobs ALOT easier as they can play off the key options. The main reason i dont what to many small fowards of the betts/yarren type is that the come in and out of the game to often and can struggle to get their own ball although when they do get it they use amazingly. I watch Essendon play Lovett, Davey and Jetta in the foward line and alot of the time the ball is sent out of their as quickly as it was sent in because their small guys go missing from time to time. We have to be carefull that we dont go down that path.

Yarran looks effortless when he gets it, he's absolute silk. Garlett reminds me of a small terrier. His pressure is great.

If i had to choose now, probably Garlett but only because i haven't seen enough of Yarran....but i don't doubt Yaz will play round 1.

Garlett isn't ready to play regular football in the seniors. Yarran is.

Yarran gets my vote.

Start Garlett in the Bullants seniors and if he doesn't get a spot as a nominated rookie then give him something to work towards, that being the elevated rookie from round 12 onwards.

Agree with you Jeremias. I really don't think Garlett is ready for senior footy and doubt he will get the nod as a nominated rookie. Sauce is a monty for elevation, and I think AJ might get a gig as well (as impressive as he was, will need to get more of the ball).

When you consider we got yarran for pick 6 and we got garlett for f**all you would have to say garlett is better value.

Garlett looks likely to develop into a servicible forward pocket even if he is having a bad game his defensive pressure would still add something. Pick 6 in last years draft therefore could have been used on a different style player, pherhaps a less risky option.

Would it hurt you to use your grey matter once in a while and not fish?

**** me drunk.

There is so such thing as a less risky option.

Most of the top ten picks wouldn't be available at six if they didn't have some question marks against them.

Yarran had three chances in a half on the weekend for one goal one against Geelong.

And selflessly gave off another one to Betts after a mark.

I don't know how you can be disappointed in Yarran's performance when he plays out of starvation corner like every small forward.

Sidebottom, Ziebell, Robinson and Beams play further up the ground where it's easier to get a kick.

The question marks should be on the clubs that passed on Robinson...

The way teams attack out of defence these days pressure from the pacey small forwards is just as important as the goals they kick, in this aspect (from what we have seen) Garlett has yarran covered comfortably.

At the moment, Garlett easily.
Yarran doesn't look like he chases hard enough and looked frustrated at times on Saturday night. The goal from the boundary was class though. I'm sure he'll be better in the long run when he gets used to the pace of the big leagues, but I would like to see more defensive side.
Garlett's too small for sure and got pushed around once or twice against the Cats, but his intensity is just fantastic and you always get the feeling that he's going to create something when he's near the ball.

Yarran comfortably.

Yarran played a better all round game than Garlett the other night, and Garlett is too skinny to go the distance in 2009 at senior AFL level, and his kicking needs a bit of work.

Yarran looked to me like he will pick up the tempo of senior AFL footy quick quickly, and he has the effortless skill to be a very good player and could have an impact quite soon.

at this stage i cannot comment on Yarran

i have seen him for about 2 minutes against the Roos and thats it, whereas i have seen Garlett for 2 games!!!

so based on what i have seen, it would be Garlett but ill let Yarran play a few games before i choose one or both guys!!!
