With the way he changes direction and shrugs off tackles he would be very hard to stop.

i wouldnt think hight would be an issue and yeah.. surprised the nfl hasnt had a crack

any semi decent running back in college would put ablett to shame.

no he wouldn't.

for starters he is white....

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

Height wont be an issue at all.

NFL scouts wouldn't waste their time scouting him as a running back.

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

He has the attributes for a RB that is for sure.

-top speed and acceleration
-elusiveness
-strength
-hands
-vision
-awareness in a confined space

Obviously he wouldn't be able to play the game right now, but if he was to have his time over, then sure, he could have the potential to make a college team.

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

Fail

You overrated the ability of NFL players

i agree , just cos they get paid a lot more doesnt make them that much better.

i personaly think GAJ would be a very effective player .

i cant imagine that our best player in this code wouldnt even stand a chance with a different code,

+ he would have pads and doesnt have to bounce

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

He's probably a bit slow and lacks acceleration. I'm not sure he'd be powerful enough, either.

dude, you forgetting one small part in all this. He has to learn the game.

As i said, he has the attributes for a decent RB. To suggest you could just plug him onto the Dallas Cowboys and watch him rack up yards is laughable.

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

Gary Ablett is not one of the greatest player in the AFL because all he can do is run and evade in a 5-10 yard space. Thats all a running back does thats what they train 7 days a week and get paid to do.

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

Sorry. I'm one of the biggest Gaz fans out there, but YOU have SEVERELY underestimated the ability of NFL players.

Yup :thumbsu:

Ablett wouldn't stand a chance against the top NFL RBs. Reggie Bush and Adrian Peterson would put him to shame.

Anyone who thinks Ablett would be able to easily adjust and be a starting player for any NFL team obviously doesn't know what it takes to play in the NFL.

yeah nuu i agree he wouldnt be able to just slot right in but im saying he has all the attributes as someone metioned above and just watching him fairly closely for the last 3 or so years, the way he brushes players aside and handles himslef in tight situations, he's just made me think that if he had a shot at an early age he'd grow into a very physicly able runnig back thats all..

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

Not fast enough off the mark for his size to move past line/linebackers, and would get destroyed if he tried to truck through. He is too small to be a power back and not really explosively fast enough to be a speed back.

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

I don't think he has the explosiveness quickness or power to be a running back, and it's unknown whether he'd have the durability to withstand the repeated pounding that NFL RBs take. That's not a knock on him, as he's obviously a great, great player in the context of our game, but IMO he's not as good an athlete as a guy like Adrian Peterson. Just as Greg Williams wouldn't get a look in at draft camp these days due to his lack of athleticism, Ablett probably wouldn't be considered quick or powerful enough for the NFL running back position.

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

ok cool

no of people who think he would make a good rb - 0
no of people who dont - 399847

i get the point lol

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

Would get smashed into a coma on the first play Reggie Bush style.

nah, you want to see a smash

but yeah, ablett .. wouldn't stand a chance, definitely in the context of our game, no padding, all pretty much athletic guys, he's up there ..

but against NFL players, that have at least 30-40kg on him (and still have the athleticism to beat him), yeah nah

Re: Gary Ablett junior would make a hell of a running back in the nfl.

out of all the AFL players which player in the whole AFL do you rekon could play as a RB in the NFL? Maybe some AFL players could play as Saftey's or LB's.
