The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce that Collingwood Premiership player and assistant coach, Gavin Brown, has been appointed as an Assistant Coach of Carlton.

Brown is one of the most respected people in football, having played 254 games with Collingwood between 1987 and 2000. A triple Best & Fairest winner he was club captain for five seasons and played in the 1990 premiership side.

“Gavin Brown is a highly respected person in football and his experience as a player and assistant coach in the AFL and also as a senior coach in the VFL will provide our coaching team with tremendous experience and knowledge,” said General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.

Gavin said he was looking forward to his new environment.

“I am really looking forward to this exciting new phase of my career. It is obviously a big decision for me to leave Collingwood, the club I have been with for over 25 years, but I believe Carlton has an exciting future and I am keen to be back working full-time with the AFL team as part of the coaching team at the Blues.”

It's amazing why he would want to leave the Pies after all this time.. especially given their recent success.
Sees the opportunity for career advancement at the Blues perhaps?

Very happy with this one. I remember meeting him when I was a little kid at a primary school clinic and he seemed awesome then, we are really building up our coaching department this off season.

Brown has been an assistant of sorts since for 10yrs (immediately after he retired). Started off as a line coach, got bumped down to development coach when Richardson was head development coach and then down to VFL coach for 3 years.

Wish him well getting back to AFL level as a full-time assitant as he has higher aspirations.

He would only have signed if he got some sort of agreement that the senior job was his when Ratts gets sacked next year.

Oh wait.......that's why Richardson signed..........I'm confused now.

it's hardly a secret is it that the blues are all over malthouse for 2012? don't underestimate the greg swann influence in all of this. if malthouse wants to coach carlton in 2012 the job is his

Obviously the club are going to try something radical & have joint coaches when they sack Ratts, with Malthouse & Roos to come on board as well, & Laidley will mentor all of them.
