No, due to 5 football clubs being within a 2-3 km radius of each other they found it tough to compete. They still exist in the form of the Giants.

What's Ports piss weak excuse for being a one town club and being woeful?
5 football clubs in an area, so they merged? (read takeover here, not merged).
No, they don't exist anymore, they are dead.....

And, they've taken on the embarrassing nondescript name of the GDFL Giants. LOLOLOL.
So they have no link whatsoever to their past, pathetic effort by all concerned.

Thomson, E.Geelong, St Albans and Newcomb are all in the same area, but good administration means they make it work.....

Their history is still alive and well. St Peter's history is still alive and well despite them being part of the original merge. It's hilarious you think that all that history and connections people have with those clubs just disappears. Truly clueless.

They are getting more publicity than Port are. GSW hosted some of their players up at a training camp and their administration is able to work with GWS administration in studying how to run football clubs better etc

Another thing that sad arse club down Port way can't call on.

Work?

Where's the pwoer hosue club among that bunch of clubs?

Hardly the same as having Bell Park, St Josephs, Newtown and West Saints and even North Geelong in your back yard.

You don't have to be a powerhouse to still have a club............
These clubs still exist.

91 years of history, gone, and now you don't have a club anymore...........

West and North Shore were still playing for the Ron Sells cup long after St Peter's merged with Geelong West.

As I said, clueless.

Oh, ellipsis is three points, not 8, 9 or 10.

Who picks this squad? And how does the league appoint a Coach who is coaching in the Bellarine league?

Sorry, but some, or at least north Geelong, are about as far from West as last year's GFL grand final winners is from newcomb, St Albans, East, and Thomson.. Soo clutching at straws a bit..

Im not saying the merge is a bad thing.. Just that a reason is a bit soft. Especially with what would not doubt be a higher population density that side of town.

I Wouldn't be surprised if a couple of clubs try and enter there own 3rd team, with gw giants basically having 4... Some clubs around wanting (or have?) an extra E grade team this year in the netball...

How do Thomson, East, St Albans & Newcomb make it work? They field a senior team, 2 out of the 4 field a ressies team no problem, the other 2 battle come mid season

Juniors - Thomson - minimal East - minimal St Albans - decent & Newcomb - well at least they try to get juniors out there

The smartest thing 2-3 of these clubs could do is merge, and preserve some part of their history in a new entity, rather than fade away to nothing when they are fold after being at the bottom of Div3/4 AFL Barwon comps in the future!

ud reckon costello n jak kennedy hunt wuld add a bit fwd.
wilson v lovett?
nobody from centrals.. disappointing call from selectors after jst 2 rnds.
bloke from west denton hasn't playd a snr or reserve game must b another secret 1 pointa.
north geelong wuldnt b happy.
brown n shelley r pity inclusions 4 their clubs.

North Geelong is the furthest away and it's still a 5-6 minute drive. Hell St Mary's is only 5-6 away too.

West was the same distance from South Barwon as all those clubs were to Leopold.

Except all those clubs out the other side have average junior programs compared to the best programs. West was up against some of the best junior programs in the region.

We have 2 under 18 sides this season due to a lot of hard work. At least now when those 50 kids finish playing juniors there will be options for them to keep playing for the Giants in either GFL or GDFL and not be lost to the club and the game.

They all still exist, that's how they make it work, and haven't taken the easy way out ie. Merge (takeover really).

GDFL approached a few GDFL figures but couldn't get the ppl they wanted to coach. Reckon this guy was just the best of ppl who applied. No issue with that.

Teams nominate players and the squad is selected from there. So some names might be glaring omissions but they might have not wanted to be nominated. Team on paper always better than what gets selected for this reason.

Does anyone really care about interleague from a fans persepctive? How many supporters travel to go watch purely for the game? 5-10? Needs a big revamp

only reason ppl care is coz of the bfl rivalry which if it happened now wuld b embarrassing for gdfl

Interleague footy is about 10 years past it's use by date....

I think footy needs something to rival that of a soccer FA Cup competition. Could be state wide.
But at least just between Gdfl, bfl and gfl.. But with divisions coming in it won't happen..

But if it went state/region wide... Mid week (Wednesday nights) games. Shorter game with slightly modified rules...
Using club teams would draw more crowds that interleague teams...
Something to play for. And you would get some type of interleague competition.
I think practice matches are interesting as you experience different teams/players/game plans.

Sunraysia aren't even bothering to send a team down here this season (citing financial reasons) so Bellarine don't get an interleague game this season. It's a farce, teams are usually only half strength anyway, it's had it's time, we don't need interleague anymore. Your idea has some merit.

I think interleague is good for the players that want to take part and gives player's selected a chance to play at a better level also learn off other coaches and players!
I recon it brings players together as well and that is always good for the league

Maybe years ago......

Yeah, nah...
The players aren't interested, and now some leagues aren't interested.
Unless each league can field their strongest possible team (which never happens) it has become irrelevant.
Mate unless you have spoken to every player you cant really talk for everyone is all! Some players would care
