I think the fact that Port arrived with their pants around their ankles and leaving 119 points behind may have distorted peoples memories.

lets remember that port beat cats by 5 points in geelong only a month earlier.

so that is in effect a 21-goal turn around.

i think 119 actually flatters port, if you watch the game again it could easily have been up around 150.

awesomeness.

I hate Geelong, but they were by far the better side.
I'll follow the Pies logic:

Richmond beat Hawthorn by 29 points in round 20, 2008.
So Richmond 08 > Hawthorn 08?
Yep, now yous must see how stupid that logic is. :)

Don't really need a poll on this. We all know the Geelong 07 side is so far ahead it's not funny. Cats would crush them.

No they wouldn't. If we want to play this game then I will. Collingwood 2010 would destroy Geelong 2007 because Collingwood's gameplan is designed to stop Geelong. Geelong would be mesmerized by the kind of front half press that Collingwood would apply and the rotations that Collingwood go through would also leave the Cats out on their feet.

People say that the Cats were not as good this season, but up until the Prelim there were still a few arguing otherwise. The problem for the Cats, and the reason why Chris Scott is a good selection as coach, is that the best defensive sides have seen that to stop Geelong you have to pressure them into mistakes in their defense. Allow them to over possess, and then strip them of the ball.

Geelong's gameplan works wonders against good attacking opponents, but against defensive opponents it can be undone.

Now, asking which side is more talented, or more exciting, easily Geelong. Asking which team would win the actual game, any logical person given the progression of game styles would select Collingwood...Lets remember Bomber Thompson was still coach, and he would be sitting in the coaches box wondering what the hell just hit his side, and what the hell was going on...He certainly wouldn't have had a plan B, other than play better.

Which players for Geelong have gone backwards so far from 2007, that makes them such an inferior team? Aren't there just as many that have improved??

If its a game, then Collingwood, if its who dominated and played the best football, then Geelong.

Ottens, Scarlett, Egan, Harley, Ling, Corey, J.Hunt, N.Ablett, King, Stokes, Milburn and Mackie.

All these players from 2007 have gone backwards, and in some cases left the club.

Improvements/additions would be Kelly, Varcoe, Hawkins, Lonergan, Taylor, Selwood, Byrnes.

Others have held a pretty similar standard, at a stretch you could also say Bartel has declined and Enright improved.

Collingwood 2010 will go down in history as one of the greatest premiership sides of all time.

Geelong 2007 were nothing more than a few stars who dominated because there was no competition.

In 07, St Kilda were still adapting to Ross Lyon's gameplan, Hawthorn and Collingwood too young to challenge and Bulldogs still shite.,

FFS when your next best competitors are Norf Melbourne and Port Failure then you definately know your in for an easy ride.

See 2008: Geelong improved vastly on 07 and dominated the H&A season, before choking against the Hawks in the GF meaning they weren't as dominant as everyone had thought but rather were flat-track bullies.

In 2009, if it weren't for the tip rat missing so many opportunities on goal the Saints would've broken their drought and the Cats would have choked....again.

Again, I re-iterate that the Mighty Pies of 2010 will be long remembered as the greatest premiership TEAM (key word) of all time. And if Hawthorn can't pull their act together I seriously believe (many will agree) that we will go through the season undefeated on our way to a record equalling 16th Flag.

But you beat two aging teams who are clearly on the slide so your flag means next to nothing.

BTW Our 2007 team would flog your 2010 team:)

On the side???

They are both premiership teams so I don't know what everyone is arguing about. Can't we just learn to love each other and promote peaceful co-existence?

What would you know about premierships your rabble of a side has been a basket case for the best part of a decade. Big 4 my ass, more like Big 1.

Here's a list of players who have diminished significantly.

Scarlett - 28 y.o and AA in 2007. 31 y.o and missed 7 games through injury in 2010
Ottens - 27 y.o in 2007, dominated finals. 30 y.o in 2010, missing 9, 19 and 10 games in '08 - '10.
Corey - 25 y.o and AA in 2007. 28 y.o and missed 11 games in 2010 with chronic knee injury
Milburn - 30 y.o and AA in 2007. 33 and not AA in 2010.
Mooney - 27 y.o and AA in 2007. 30 y.o and not AA in 2010
Ling - 26 and AA in 2007. 29 y.o and slower than a snail in 2010 - calls for retirement.
Rooke - there in 2007, not in 2010.
Bartel - 23 y.o and Brownlow in 2007. Played injured in 2010.
Stokes - got OP in 2008, hasn't been the same since
Harley - Captain and backline general retired in 2009
Egan - AA CHB in 2007, significantly better than Taylor. Retired due to injury in 2009.

The only players that represent a NET improvement to the team since 07 are Selwood, Varcoe, Kelly and maybe Ablett.

And perhaps even more important than the above is the fact that in 2007 Geelong were like Collingwood this year: hungry, energetic, full of players desperate to play their role perfectly for fear of ending up in the reserves the following week.

2010 Geelong was clearly a much older, inferior version.

Im confused now, was 1990 the greatest ever or is it 2010. Maybe there both the best teams ever.

Sounds like you have absolutely no chance in 2011 then mate???

Geelong were pretty much unbeatable during their era whereas Collingwood were always a beatable team this year if the cards were played right. Geelong clearly.

You just have to look at the matchups as well. Geelong are better in the majority of positions.

Ablett > Swan
Bartel > Pendlebury
Chapman > Didak
Scarlet > Reid/Presti
Egan/Taylor > Brown

list goes on
