Our midfield played a very bruise free style. If our mids went as hard as Rohan did it would have been a very different game.

Dare I say our system won the game. But it did mean we didn't score much. Fast breaks from half back, only for a kick from the wing/hf straight to half back.

Effective but not good habits to learn. Not a lot of urgency today.

Kudos to limiting their scoring (couple from flukey bounces and bullshit frees too) and to Zach Guthrie playing a really good game

Got cats fans everywhere texting to say what you are saying, very ordinary unexciting game.
I thought my fave red Rohan might have injured his foot, stayed on so maybe not.
Over and out for another 4 points.

Go buy some scallops on the harbour boys, they're the best.

Rhys Stanley talking to ABC radio, handles himself really well with the media.

The biggest positive today was Zuthrie. He obviously can play. Read the ball, intercepted all day, kept marking it and most importantly didn't fold under pressure. He's going to be good. Today was the first time he's shown genuine A+ potential.

On a slightly negative note, I think we need to trade Menegola. This guy is going to be a massive liability come finals. He's a decent skills player, but he looks like Lance Whitnall out there. The speed has totally come out of him and he's a plodder who can't pressure or evade. Too harsh maybe?

Geelong again shown its not beyound smelling up the joint with a style that would put a man on no dose to sleep ..... as long as they take home the 4 points

Higgins is a glimpse player now , but he was not alone in having an ordinary game. Most had bad Stanley games ...

Special tick to Kruger and Zac Guth. I like the way the coach singled them out coming back into the rooms. I still worry that Krueger looks a little frail at times. Its like Im waiting for him to get injured. Zac Guth has not played 50 games .... near 30 now and is 23...so one would hope he would start to show that type of form.

In the end a professional result.... a boring , blood draining style of game. Not good to watch..on TV or live ... but I doubt any of the guys who get paid to play care. Why would they worry if the style is entertaining ..they just get the win and move on. Understand the logic ... but why would anyone cough up 50 bucks or more to watch it. It's not the style the afl would want to. advertise the game in a state like Tas imo.

Fair chunk of first team players out for us too remember, Cameron, Duncan, O'Connor, Miers, Hendo, Atkins, add those blokes in and we win by 10 goals.

I thought it was only Richmond who has injuries...

Didn't look out of place, but not sure he keeps his spot when Henderson is available
Agreed - but if we need him id be happy for him to come in and IMO gets a new deal

Go Catters

Positives:

- Zuthrie was superb
- No real injuries
- Virtually locked up top 3

Negatives:

- Spectacle of it, but there's circumstances there to be fair
- Higgins. Let's be real folks, he's here for a paycheck. He's done. I've been a defender of his but it's just gone on long enough, the cream isn't rising as Dwayne Russell would say.

Edit: Kreuger as well, slipped my mind. Wasn't huge but did enough to show he belongs at this level. Will get consistent games with another preseason under his belt.

You look at Geelong.. when we play the better sides we play good attacking football. But when we play the poorer sides we are more defensive game...
Take the 4 points and move on
That’s because the poorer sides tries to keep the score down more than trying to win …while the top sides won’t plays as defensive as they try to win

It was low scoring and close all the way through but it still felt that we were in no real danger of North Melbourne actually beating us despite all their effort. I feel Geelong of 2016-2019 would have lost today. Since COVID the club has really turned a corner when it comes to in game pressure. Bring on September!
There is a lot of truth in this. 5~6 years ago I was wondering why we were so bad at handballing to advantage, and everyone was lamenting the lack of short kicking skills. Things has swung around a lot. IDK if its the personnel recruited/lost, experience, or training but we are so much better at moving forward quickly or under pressure than before. There were a few instances in 1H today where we did it so instinctively to runners where in the past it was always to stationary or teammates already under pressure. The improvement has been very enjoyable to watch.
