Dan Howe won the North 2km today.
In another thread I commented how Daicos won Collingwood's time trial with a fairly middling time. Safe to say we're building a line up with some of the best runners in the game. This is more evidence of that.

A little from column a, a little from column b? His fitness did pick up a lot and this is his last shot, but also says a lot about north.
Shiels won the before Christmas time trail, it 100% says something about their list. Would either be in the top 10 at Hawthorn?

I definitely think our club has a POD in this area that will pay off in spades, the young daicos won collingwoods with 6:38, not sure he would be in our top 10 even

That’s pretty ominous for North.
Their inability to play out games really hurt them last season, and it's probably going to be just as bad for them this season.

There are quite a few of their players I really rate, but barring LDU there are none under a certain age who really seem to bleed for it and want to improve. Simpkin, Stephenson, Zurhaar, Thomas... there's no desire there. Zurhaar hits hard but is a very superficially tough player who doesn't run or work hard, Stephenson runs fast early and burns out quickly, Thomas doesn't seem to care and Simpkin is selfish. We'll see if Clarko and his acquisitions can drill something more into em but I'm not so sure.

All we need now is some players that can prove they can to get the pill consistently

Assuming accurate information is wanted around here, Simpkin actually won it, archer 2nd and Howe came 3rd.

Why were Howe and Shiels recruited to Norf? Answer: To drive training standards.

I love that our (discarded) guys are tearing up the track and showing that to play in the AFL is not about talent, but about what you can make of your talent.

This info is awesome. Thanks TBL

Dan Howe running third is only marginally better than him coming first.

Still sounds like Roos have a weak squad of runners if Howe is coming third in time trials, because I’m not sure he would have ever finished higher than 7-8th in any of the years he was with us, and even now he’d likely finish behind CJ, Finn, Ward, Weddle, Moore, Long, Nash and probably even Ramsden.

AFL stats are harder to find than they should be, but this page is very good and worth a bookmark.

Indeed, over the off season they've added a whole bunch more historical seasons. Previously they only had 2021 and 2022. They're doing gods work.

Could likely add Bramble & Amon to that list. With Morrison & O'Hara being close?
