Their social media accounts have a large following of opposition supporters because of this type of content - that one tweet has had close to 2k likes

There would be other clubs sitting back wishing they had that sort of fan interaction

The fact that it’s also getting under the skin of pies supporters is also a bonus

We should be poaching their crew. I know they are Giants supporters but they’ll like us plenty if on the payroll.

It's mostly coming from one guy and he's been able to be successful because he's naturally funny and the Giants largely give him a lot of freedom. Most of the other clubs, particularly the big ones who've been around for a long time aren't actually prepared to give that level of autonomy to a twenty-something with an After Effects licence to post original footy memes under the banner of the clubs socials.

We probably have the capability within our own media team already, but the club is going to be very risk adverse when it comes to "the brand".

You see the same contrast in the socials of other industries. Wendy's vs McDonalds. RyanAir vs Emirates. etc, etc, etc.

Good call. McDonalds' socials are genuinely abysmal. it's funny that when growing up there were two brands that had such great, memorable campaigns - McDonalds and Coke. Both of them have obviously gotten to such a point of market domination that they don't give a **** any more because their TV ads are pathetic and their social media is bland as hell.

On the footy front though - the Seattle Seahawks are a big brand and love to shitpost. I wish we'd take a leaf out of their book.

A decade to the week of that Prelim against Geelong. The last quarter alone took a couple of years off my life expectancy. I seldom feel stressed watching any footy nowadays (at least comparatively). Have heard some great anecdotes from primary sources; oh to be a fly on the whiteboard of that 3qt huddle.

2008 was the only one of those that was easy on the fingernails.

I'll never forget the feeling of the worst pent up stress just leaving my body when Poppy marked it on the wing.

Just finished work and rewatched the 4th. Amazing how well the senior players stood up in the contest, especially Silk and Mitch. Gunners, Hodge, Poppy, Lewis, Goo were also excellent when lets face it, our club's on-field reputation was on the line.

Poppy took that mark right in front of me; I had no idea how long was left. The stress didn't start leaving my body until a good 10 seconds after the final siren - it was nigh on impossible to hear it at the ground.

The bays on that far wing standing up one by one with as they moved the ball down the wing has always stayed with me being a part of that. Goosebumps still 10 years later. What a game

The noise.

Amazing game and was lucky enough to be there, but deep down for me celebrations were on hold till we got the job done proper. That 2012 GF loss was deadset traumatic, so a prelim win (even if it was against Geelong) wasn't going to cut it unless we won the next week. i think back to Bucky's kick after the siren in 87 prelim (the most exciting win I've experienced), but to lose in the GF against Carlton the next week kinda sucked.

It's why I love our 2013 premiership so much, and feel the significance of it gets lost on many of our supporters. But guess with all our success we are a spoiled lot 🤣

100% agree. Also the 2013 flag was the first one I got to see at the G itself so it will always be very special for me.

2013! Maybe not the most memorable GF but easily the most important! What a season! Just 3 losses ( 2 close losses th the scats). We simply HAD to win that flag.
Retribution at its finest. I remember hearing Cyril speak after the 2013 GF win and about how much it meant to him after the year before.

As a Hawthorn fan it almost felt like the universe had been corrected after being out of whack.

Definitely 2008 for me too. I started following Hawthorn in '92 and witnessed just about every club win the Premiership, some twice while we struggled for so many years. Huge relief and excitement winning in 2008 particularly seeing Crawford's dream come true.

2013 was fantastic but I felt celebrations were cut short as Buddy left soon after. Never felt like I could truly celebrate it.

2014 The Revenge. Not only on Sydney for 2012 but Buddy leaving the year before. We stuck it right up them!

But 2015 I think I would consider the best of the three peat. Really felt after the loss to the Eagles that this was perhaps the end of an goldern era but we bounced back brilliantly and then ended up smashing the Eagles in the GF.

On the topic of Barassi - absolutely back naming the premiership trophy after him.
There's something I really like about it just being a premiership without a dedication.

Also, with the current day of people being offended. How long until a story comes out and people get offended.

My mum was in the airforce, and he did a tour of her base one year. She said he treated her like trash. She's thick skinned so laughs at him being "a dirty, drunk p#$%^" but how long until a story comes out that isn't laughed off?
