You can understand why some put on weight when they retire though. They spend 15 years training the house down and eating a lot of calories, then they retire and don’t exercise as much but the eating habits are probably hard to change

I'm no professional athlete but when I did my ACL and Meniscus several years ago I went from going to the gym twice weekly, footy training once/twice weekly, a game on the weekend and at least one futsal game per week to nothing.

Meanwhile my eating habits stayed nearly the same. I put on 10kg before I even blinked.

Blah blah blah the usual bs comparison with US sports...I doubt anyone will miss not knowing the players' (listed) weight, half the time they were deliberately fudged anyway (ditto a decent portion of the height measurements).

In my 15 or so years on Big Footy it's rarely ever the listed heights/weights that draw criticism towards the players.

Maybe what they should ban is the online sharing of pre-season photos where the player hasn't had a chance to get their pump on and isn't dehydrated to the point where they appear to have sub-8% body fat yet.

On one level this is stupid, because it's pretty vital information in a contact sport. On another level I don't really care because about 50% of players never seem to have their numbers updated post draft anyway.
