You have gym mates?

I don't think I've said one word to anyone except the ppl that work there

I go to a boxing gym, they’re a bit different I think. The owners really encourage the team aspect, we all go together to watch our guys fight, we watch the big fights at the pub together, it’s a great atmosphere down there.

Yeh, my thing is always “just get there” drag my ass to the gym, regardless (granted with a home gym it’s ALOT easier).

If I can get myself there, even on my least “motivated” day, I’ll do something, usually it winds up being a normal session cause if I’m already there, why not.

My gym splits now are absurdly simple, it freaks people out how simple my gym schedule is but for me it’s “get in, headphones on, do my session to my time splits, finish up”.

It’s a fantastic switch off and get out of my head and into my body space.

going to be honest i find the best thing with dieting is to just not have the foods that you know will tempt you around. cant snack on chips if they arent in the pantry.

preparing all your meals for the week in advance so you arent getting takeaway when you cant be bothered cooking another one.

the best place to start is probably to stop drinking calories. most people will find it a lot easier to replace soft drinks with water than completely shake up their meal routine.

i do find dieting harder than maintaining a gym / cardio routine.

We're just playing word gymnastics to say there is no motivation involved once it becomes a habit. It just becomes much easier when you go all the time or actively enjoy doing it.
As they say learn to love the process, not the result.

I never liked swimming training as a kid (more like hated actually) then lifting weights as a teen but now love both. Even ended up not minding running again for a few years. When in becomes just something you 'do' like brushing your teeth you have won and the results take care of themselves.

This is true enough, though I do keep a packet of salt and vinegar chips at home for occasional snacks. The key is to only grab a handful and clip the bag up again and put back in the cupboard every time, not take the packet out or pour a shitload into a bowl. I'm too lazy to eat many at one sitting if I do this cause I have to go back to the cupboard, pull out the packet again etc.

And agreed with your last line, I don't really diet as such anymore but i'm in sales and as such have a lot of client lunches at good restaurants, difficult to rein it in in that situation.

I have a major sweet tooth so I just factor that into my calories and macros for the day.

Lots of people also go overkill on protein which makes the rest of what you eat really rigid and inflexible.

There's no easy way about it - those first four or so weeks of dieting while your stomach gets to shrinking are absolutely horrendous. It gets a bit easier after that until you hit the low body fat percentages.

I was incredibly strict with my diet for years with footy etc. I havent "dieted" in any form basically since then but ive found that generally having healthy food habits and understanding my body and what it needs has helped. That goes double as i get older.

Booze is a big one, im not a big drinker so i dont have the booze intake and then the natural late night maccas/kebab and inevitable hangover follow up.

If i want take away i get it, if i want chocolate or whatever i eat it, i tend not to crave that stuff much anymore.

I've basically completely cut out anything sweet, was never that big into it anyway but I never eat dessert unless forced (birthday cake, "oh you have to try this" etc).

We had a conversation in the gym the other week about losing weight, one of the guys reckoned you can't lose weight and still drink beer, I informed him that he's wrong, but I don't necessarily recommend all of my weight loss methods ha ha

The only place I truly switch off is in the pool. I never want to lose the lap count so thats all in my head is the number.
When I was swimming regularly, it was easily the most effortless relaxing enjoyable exercise, doing laps in the pool.
