If we make the GF, looks like unless your a Legends member, you have very little chance to get a GF seat.
Im a captains member and won't be upgrading although id like to.

Thats pretty much 1-8 chance of getting a ticket.

AFL Member here on Collingwood club support.

I'll still have to camp out when our allocation becomes available.

Assuming we get there of course. But even for the normal finals I'll have to camp. All Vic finals this year, so big crowds.

What a disgrace Collingwood! The membership cutoff occurs mid season! For a club that supposedly values everyone as equals, why create a scenario where the rich benefit and the poor suffer?

For every rich member who upgrades to a legends package, they are reducing the chances of a GF ticket of the other members who cannot afford to do so. Ok to do this at the start of the year, but not as soon as it looks like we have a good chance of finishing on top of the ladder.

This is pure & simply a money making exercise at the expense of the true supporters who have made the club what it is today. Eddie Maguire, you should be ashamed.

Sorry to intrude but it seems strange that you can upgrade your memberships at this time of year. Social Club members and September members at Geelong have to nominate before the start of the season, this gaurantees GF tickets if we make it. Not sure what it's like at other clubs but seems unfair to your ordinary members going in the ballott. Just an observation.

As an AFL member, I can tell you this part is wrong;

Almost 11,000 are AFL members and eligible to seek a seat in the AFL members' reserve on Grand Final day.

Only full AFL members with a club support package aligned with Collingwood and the other competing club get direct access to AFL members GF seats.

The current number is around 6,000 for Collingwood, with no other team close.

I just wouldn't believe everything I read, that's all I'm saying here.

I've been a member for 13 years (I'm 30 next year and the junior memberships I held previously don't seem to count).

I live in Brisbane and buy a Magpie Nest membership usually, but this year it was a 3 game membership. I updgraded to Legends Membership 2 weeks ago to ensure Grand Final tickets.

not sure that its fair that I can do this, but I'm more than happy to pay that much. So essentially, I have paid $800 for the right to purchase grand final tickets and a prelim ticket.

I just wish I had maintained my MCC membership!

What I got from that article was that you can still buy out a new legends membership. Seems a bit risky - a $795 insurance policy if they make the GF.

Mostly seems unfair to the long termers though. Even if it's a slight decrease in the odds, it's still a decrease, and more people miss out.

Wencat, what do you mean by "nominate" GF tickets. Do you pay extra at the start of the season?

i agree. that doesnt happen at st kilda they totally cut off the social club (grand final ticket) at 12,500 so that stuff doesnt happen. every social club member gets a ticket but its a lottery of what ticket you get offered. however with the cheer sqaud that doesnt happen. 450 cheersqaud memebers but only 200 tickets available. so of stkilda allocation of 12,500 tickets no standard member will get access. so about 30K will miss out.

The odds were not 1 in 7 for social club members. They will be even less now.

Only "Full" members with Club Support to the competing team have a guaranteed access to the GF tickets. Any tickets still available are then available to "Full" members of all other clubs.

Collingwood have 6,238 Full AFL Members. (see below)

Silver AFL Members with Club Support to the competing team can go into the clubs membership ballot.

I'm not rich. I'm also already a member, and I go to most games. I simply upgraded my membership as I wanted to make sure I had the opportunity to purchase a ticket, as I don't want to rely on a ballot.

I missed out in 2002/2003 because I could not afford it (uni student at the time). I don't want to miss out this time if we make it.
