But Richmond has come off three flags and is doing very well off-field. At the same period, Geelong had come off three flag losses, or four in 10 years, and was in a precarious financial quandry.
In the late '90s Geelong was an absolute basket case. It was realistically plausible that the club would either merge with Footscray, or at the very least, play its home games at the new Docklands Stadium.
Alas, I see many, many years of struggle at Tigerland. I believe it will be a long time before the yellow and black army will be emphasising that component of their theme song post-match on a regularly basis.
