I know, I saw that. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Can you imagine Collingwood having Wayne Hames on their homepage making a wise crack about the 79 grand final?

I'm glad out club thinks this is all a bit of a laugh

I'd encourage everyone to voice their disapproval to the club: info@gfc.com.au

Did you take a looksee at what's being auctioned, though? A guernsey, signed by Brereton, on which he wrote 'Sorry about '89!!'. It's marketing, nothing more, and the auction ended yesterday.

and you dont barrack for geelong, you follow the most electrifying man in sports entertainment so you wouldnt understand why everyone is a bit miffed at this regardless of marketing ploys.

Surely that's not his real hair these days!! We all know his face isn't real either. Why a "hard man" of the game would want to ponce himself up later in life is beyond me.

I just sent a blazing email to the club voicing my disgust and disapproval. When I get a chance I'll stick the letter in here for general consumption.

Quick! Get Nick Davis to sign "sorry about the SF 05" before he turns into a punce and we have to look at fake hair from another stupid ad.

i know it looks a little crappy and it stands out a lot but its only advertising, arent you guys over reacting a little?!

Well, it's been a mere 43 years since the last premiership. That's longer than anyone apart from Footscray of the original VFL teams. I was at the 1989 Grand Final, plus the 1992, 1994 and 1995. If you can find anything remotely humourous about 4 losing Grand Finals congratulations because I can't.

Put it this way, do you think Collingwood would have Akermanis's smiling face on the fecking homepage of the football club's website saying "sorry about 2002" - no chance in hell. Why are Geelong's losing Grand Finals a source of amusement? This club will never get anywhere until the only thing they stand for is success - not near misses.

Apparently not everyone is miffed. Besides, whether I agree with the use of it as a promo on the club homepage, it's what was on the guernsey and was what apparently drew the attention of most people who visited, whether it enticed them to look at the auction site or not. It did what it was designed to do, yeah?

I responded to the question in the original post, which was "what is it doing there?" not "what do you think of it?" so my opinion on the issue, really, wasn't requested and therefore isn't relevant. I object to it being called into question for no reason, and also the way you did so.

ummm, most were referring to the auction banner and having dermies mug on the gfc.com website not the actual guernesy auction i think. i could be wrong.

you seemed to not understand why geelong supporters may not like dermie or have a grudge against him, regardless of marketing ploys or what is written on a jumper. back in 89 im sure you were charting the steady rise of one koula in the under 8's but most of us would have been witnessing the first of many grand final defeats. thats what i call into question.

Well put. None of us have a problem with a guernsey auction, the club has to generate revenue of course - but it's how it is presented that is called into question. Why wouldn't you put a Geelong player's face on the website?

No way, why have this Hawthorn ******** on our site, joking about a game where we got closest to a premiership in the last FOUR DECADES. Get this **** off GFC.

I'm sorry too, Dermie, sorry that Mark Yeates didn't hit you harder in the '89 GF (as in knock you out cold, so that you would be stretchered off with a neckbrace, and not play the rest of the game). If Mark Yeates had hit Dermie harder, we wouldn't have to look at Dermie's stupid face on this ad, as Yeates would have knocked it off his shoulders.
